: Legends Competitors (thanks for the show)

Keep entering these competitons. You guys are fun to watch For anyone contemplating entering, do it.

I couldn't have had a better time than watching a YJ on 33s and a Cruiser on 35s drive some of the roughest obstacles on the East coast. *SpaceGhost* and *snobrder* made my trip to this latest ERoCC event. These guys GET IT! Turning in legends scores as good as unlimited (w/o winching) and using plenty o' driver skill (and rev-limiter).

Thanks for the show. I don't think I was the only one impressed

TyTy

I'll second that! Some impressive driving out there! Those obstacles seemed very unforgiving of small mistakes for the legends guys. Lots o pressure and lots of fun to watch!

Oh, and thanks again for the beer Mike:D

Thanks bigdude! I'm sure this thread will get lively, we all have so much to add. I am going to be the first to say this:

Rocky and Essentially Off-Road RULE! He stepped up and added to the pot for the Legends guys with additional prizes and a "Dash for Cash" on "Yota Hill", a sweet $250 in cash for the lowest Legends score. The rain only made it better!

Having just got to meet Rocky, he goes out of his way to help others out, and his support in this catagory is indicative of his commitment to this sport and our hobby!

Without a doubt, you guys ROCK! It's refreshing to see rigs that can 'get it' with the big guys with relatively simple rigs!

I want to say that I had a blast all weekend, and the POR guys make the event fun for all! :flipoff2:

I hate to bring this up, but what happened with SpaceGhost? When I left Sunday morning, you had a comfortable lead, and when I got up this morning and checked the results, you got a second. :( Just wondering what happened?

Regarding the IFS/IRS thread:

I guess this thread might give us an idea of where the sport/competition NEEDS to go.

It's been awhile since I've heard (read) such pure *excitement* about the sport. As opposed to "YEAH man you really GOT IT!" Not that the latter is a bad thing though ;)

Wish I could have been there, I hope to enter a competition some day.

I'll say it first, I got in a hurry, made a couple of rookie ass mistakes, and never settled back into the groove we had going Saturday. Don't know how to explain having to winch downhill on the easiest obstacle on the course :emb4:

Rob did a great job, thanks badassjeepguy! BTW, we are competing in a CRUISER :flipoff2:

I was wondering if that was going to happen (getting in a hurry). On the last obstacle of the day on Saturday, and the third to the last obstacle, even though you were kicking ass, you hit two gates that if you took your time, you probably would have missed them. But, then that whole momentum thing goes out the window when you do take your time sometimes.

Anyway, I was kind of bummed when I saw the results this morning, but hell, second is still better than Syko came in. :flipoff2:

I cant believe Bettio came in as well as he did! That sucks that someone can be that boring and scared to drive and place third!

I saw several times when he just pulled up and winched. WTF? Not to mention the obstacle he wouldnt try. I can kinda understand that cause that is a scarry hill but the winching was plain gay as can be.

You bring up an interesting point though with the "legends" class. If you can consistantly stay 'in the game' throughout the weekend, don't count yourself out.

Hindsight is 20/20, and I would be willing to bet that if Jim had thought to at least pull up to the rest of the gates and point out, and had a spare R&P for Sunday, he'd have definately been in the mix!

Live and learn! I can't wait for next year, you guys have taught me alot already, and I'm not even competing (yet :flipoff2: )

Legends class next year is going to be very competitive, that is if all the spotters this year that are going to be driving next year can find spotters. :D

Granted you guys whooped him. But in Legends 75 points isn't that much.

Take away your mental slips from Sunday, take away *snobrder*s oil filter problem Saturday (that's all it was, collapsed filter media) and your two teams would've been FAR ahead.

A few guys to watch out for in the future for Legends are Snobrder and Rkcrawl. From what I saw.
Snobrder looks as if he drives with 4 hands and 3 feet and looks as comfortable in the seat as someone driving through an empty intersection. Very impressive.
Jim (Rkcrawl) seems mild mannered until he gets behind the wheel and then he just turns into an animal! Not even a little bit afraid of fully gettin it. Great job.
Anyone with Kevin (Bigdude) as a spotter poses a serious threat as well. I havn't met anyone yet with as much enthusiasm and dedication. The thoughts of Bigdude at the wheel............
And as long as Spaceghost is on the course there will always be entertainment and some WICKED-ASS competition. Once again Mike, great driving.
It was nice seeing all you Pirates again and meeting some others for the first time.
Borninajeep, Rockjeep, Syko, Rockyj, TyTy, IndyCJ, Patooyee (I know I'm missing a lot) great bunch of guys, good luck to all of you.

I watched him get hung up on the spectator trail.
He found one of the only rocks and planted his rear diff right over it :shaking: I guess he needed his spotter.

Just got off the phone with my friend and we're going to cage my rig this Saturday/Sunday. He's got all kinds of tube left over from building his frame so I gets it cheap (free). Found a tire shop that will true my 38s down to 36 (only like 1/4" tread if that) for real cheap also. I'll need everyones help convincing my girlfriend Niki (slim blonde  ) to drive it in the legends class in September while I spot for Buddy.

I had a blast there, but I didn't get to watch a lot of the legends class....I followed the leader and watched Shupe, Durham, and Meyer the whole time. I did see BAJG almost get his big ass run over on Hardcore. What did you guys think about the little CJ-5 on 33's, I was impressed he made it the second day! Well with all that said, the best show of the whole weekend goes to....... FRANKIE FOUNTAIN and his REAPER on Crowsnest. He didn't make it but damn if he didn't show the true strength of 2.5 tons, he ate that hill up! Shupe did a nice job of making that climb but he didn't put on such a vicious attack as Frankie did. They was a lot of breakage real early on in the Unlimited class, auto tranny's are nice but they just don't seem to have the stamina to hold up.

Why put on a viscious attack when it's not needed? Perhaps this is where some east coast wheelers are having to adapt in order to reach the top ranks:idea:

Congratts to Mike and Rob for a job well done. Would have liked to see you take 1st, but what are you going to do.

I for DAM sure wish the front end hadn't broke (still not home yet so I haven't looked at it yet), but it would have been for sure an awesome weekend!

IndyCJ, correct, if I could have found Ford 9 5.43 gears and just pointed out saturday the rest of the obstacles, I would have been ahead of Mr Bettio at that point, and at least in the hunt for 4th or better on Sunday. Oh well, live and learn.

A BIG thanks to bigdude who spent his time and money to be my spotter, only to see it go up in flames on battle ship when the front grenaded.

It was very cool to meet the POR folks, and looking forward to seeing you folks again in September. Yep, I'll be there. Need to drum up a spotter though.

Everyone put on a vicious attack at the Crows Nest, even Shupe, it's just that a blown V-8 tends to be more vicious than a stock 6 cylinder.
That was the only way to attack that hill. Or maybe it was just more visiously finessed by some more than others.;)

It was good to meet you at the event. Sorry I didn't get to see more of your rig. You definitely do know how to work the crowd, sitting at the bottom reving your motor, it was sweet to watch. Frankie, you certainly know how to work the crowd ( a hell of a lot better than you know how to work a keyboard;) ) That was a show to say the least, it almost scares me to see what would've happened if you had the full power of that thing workin'. I guess we'll find out in a month what that thing really has in it. Just make sure the organizers clear a landing pad at the top. You can check here: http://www.erocc.com/sept2002.html

So far, we have 19 UNLIMITED and 11 LEGENDS competitors that have "guaranteed" spots. After that, ANYONE is eligible to compete in those divisions.

Please get your registrations in early, though... because if we do get to a point where we have too many vehicles, it will be based on who had their registrations in first!
