Title pretty much sums it up.

Thanks man.

If you don't mind me asking,

Whats the hot ticket hub items right now? I am tring to piece together a Jeep D30 5 on 4.5" hub conversion and all I have is some spindles.

The dana 35 is also 5 bolt as well. Hubs mostly seem to be warn manuals although some have started using procomp and i think it is superwinch hubs as well. If you need more info on the dana 35 spindle let me know and i will take some measurements and or pics cause i have a spare in the garage.

When I ran my Dana 28, I never broke a single factory hub! Plenty of axles shafts though.

I fully believe the factory hubs are every bit as strong as the warn hubs. I've heard from a few different sources that they are the same.

As for using Dana 28 spindles and hubs for a conversion.......I think I'd figure out something else. The D28 uses small bearings and they are really close together = bad for big tires. Also, your stub shafts would be really small!

The Dana 35 stuff is a little bigger, but I still think it's a wasted effort. As a Heep owner, I fully understand the desire for locking hubs.

My suggestion is you prepare for a ......yes......Dana 44 swap. Dana 44's are litterally a dime a dozen. A friend just picked up a HP44 for $56 at a pick-n-pull... a more realistic price is $100 - $250. Ultra easy to narrow. Then you just weld on a few brackets and it will bolt right up..... problem solved! Sell you D30 and cut your losses.

However, I have a set of Dana 28 spindles, hubs, rotors and calipers that I would sell ultra cheap! Spindles are in great shape too!

Oh yeah I am totally with ya on that one.

My issue is going to wind up being bolt pattern as I plan to go much bigger in the future.

This is what I stumbled apon.

From the image you can see some 3 bolt spindles, the only spindles that I can think of that are 3 bolt are the Warn conversion spindles for YJ/TJ/XJ. In the Warn kit those spindles are really the only custom piece that I know of (I need to research the wheel hub some).

So I already have the spindle

I run a hi pinion D30 front with 4.88s and welded using a mechanical linkage on the disco so I am already about as low douge in this mofo as you can get.

I still have my factory D30 that I plan on selling soon enough.

I also have a 4Banger so torque will not be as big of an issue.

I might take you up on some of those D28 parts, whats the big difference between them and the D35 parts? Cheap parts are good to experiment with ;) .

Dana 35 spindles use nice big bearings but the problem is that they too are spaced too close together. What happens is the outer spindle nut will slack off and the rotor will begin to wobble. This causes excessive front tire wear. Since this usually only happens to high mileage spindles the only solution is to replace them with new ones. I say new spindles because it is most likely that any spindles you find in the junk yard will be in the same poor shape as the ones being replaced. New spindles are extremely expensive so much so that you could be well into a Dana 44 swap with the money for a pair of new Dana 35 spindles. I paid C$356 each for my spindles. On the up side since I put the new spindles on they have retained their torque for almost two years even with plenty of hard use.

Another thing is the locking hubs. I have seen a few hubs that have exploded because (again higher mileage hubs) the teeth dig into the inside part of the hub and force the gear into a narrower space near the selector. However, I recently broke a u-joint and wrecked the outer stub shaft without causing any damage to the locking hub. I guess it's all the luck of the draw.
