Subject vehicle is a 87 Ranger with the 2.3 4 banger and a 5 speed.

After a clutch job, the shifter goes thru the gears, but does not spin the driveline.

My friend used a bolt to shift the tranny because when he took the shifter out, he left it at a wierd angle, so when he went to get it in, he couldn't - so he used a bolt to shift it.

What does he need to do to get it shifting properly again?

unless the shift rails are loose or he poped out the spring there shouldn't be a problem.

Oh and it helps if you tell us exactly which 5 speed transmission you have.

I am not sure what tranny it is - I am helping a friend from work - I have never seen the truck. It is a 2WD truck, and I did search and found out it potentially could have one of 5 trannys.

He said it goes through the gears and that each one very easily clicks into place- but there is no output.

I talked through the clutch R&R, and it sounds like he did that right (Its the 2nd clucth he has put in himself).

What sounded wrong to me was that because it was hard to get the shifter back in because of the angle the lever was on when he took it out, he used a bolt to 'shitf it so he could get the lever back in.

Any other thoughts?
