I can't figure out how to get to my oil filter to change it. I've tried going from the wheel well and from under the top but I can't find a way so that I can even tighten the wrench around the filter to turn it.
Also, my poor truck's hood is covered in dry rust that's been slowly spreading across the whole hood. Is there anything I can do now to prevent it from continuing its creep across the hood? Or anything but painting it to make it look not as awful?
Thanks

Just beat a screw driver through the oil filter and turn it by hand you can even go up through the bottom at an angle with it that will take less space as for the hood I would sand the rust off and spray it down with some anti rust paint at the very least clean it off and spray it down with some of the rust to primer stuff they sell it at some auto parts stores and most car paint stores it goes on clear and turns the rust spots into black primer spots

I don't know about Yota's specifically, but with most of my vehicles I just make sure that the filter is dry (not oily) and that my hands are dry too, then use a clean rag to provide extra grip on the filter. Somes cars can be a real PITA.. contorting your arms with joints you didn't know you had... If you still can't get it, do something else for a minute, then come back and try again. Way back in HS, I took shop class and some guy told me to use the screwdriver trick. I did, and twisted the damned thing in half!
I am a newb, so I don't know what you mean by "dry" rust... but I would get some rougher sand paper and sand at least a half inch radius of any rust spot or bubble, clean it, degrease it, and put some QUALITY primer down. The cheap crap will just start rusting after the next rainfall.

Make sure you paint over it unless it's a primer/SEALER. Straight primer will allow water to get right back in and start doing damage.

Most auto parts stores stock oil filter sockets...then you can attach your 3/8'' tools to it.

I used what halfxpaid used on my 91. That should work for you.

i think he's saying that he can't get to the filter to take it off.
i changed the oil on a '94 yota with the 3.0 v6- it was a pita. but if you jack it up and turn the wheels all the way to the left you can sorta get to the filter.
good luck
There is a plate that bolts into the inner fender well that you can take off and the filter is right there. All you need is a ratchet and a 10MM socket to take it off.
