Just put my gauges in my truck. My trans is reading 300 degrees after the truck is warmed up. What should these be running at? Could it be possible for the sender probe not to have a good ground on it and that where this number is coming from. But it does take awhile for it to get up to that reading.

With a auto you should be running between 140 - 210,220 max.

Ive heard that it should read about 80-100 degrees above ambient temperature for normal operation. Something is definatley wrong if yours is reading 300.
Where is your sender at? Is it in one of the cooler lines or in the diagnostic port of the tranny?

if it is 300........you will be buying a tranny soon!
the hottest mine has ever gotten was 210. 150 not towing and 180 towing is my norms

Correct and yeah where's the sender at? OP, Verify it's hooked up correctly and that the sender is working. Put it in a pot of hot water (cross check temp with a cooking thermometer or whatever you've got) to see if it's reading correctly.
IIRC 227* is max sustained trans sump temp. If your trans consistantly gets to 220+ you will probably have failure soon. I lost a stock converter in my old stock trans and I had temps of 250* unloaded! and I had never even seen over about 205* while towing in hills on a HOT day before that. So if it's really getting to 300* the damage is already done and you'll probably be buying a new trans soon.
I have a fully built trans from John Woods... but you should check out BTS as they are closer to you. Get on the powerstroke forums and you should be able to find all sorts of info and arguments about who's transmission is the best.

Well the good part is my trans was just rebuilt so it is still covered. My sender is in the threaded hole that there is normally a plug in on the driver side ofthe trans.

What brand of gauge are you running that reads to 300? My Autometer only goes to 250 degrees.
