would anyone buy a used set of 35x14.50x15 used thornbirds if they only have about 8000 miles on them for $275?

THey are pretty shitty tires but thats a good price... if you have the money, get something better, otherwise id prolly just get them.

I would buy them for that and just take a grooving iron to them.

Buy them then buy a tire grooving tool and make whole bunch of changes to the pattern and you might be ok

I don't think they would be quite so horrible if they were cut up with the iron a bit. Go for it, play with the cheap tires so that you know how you want to grove when you get your bigun's.

my buddy got some 33s for the same price. That arnt great tires but they do the job for him. Light wheelen. It would help it his car lost some weight. (5500lbs) Scout Diesel.

I'm in the buy and cut crowd. I think it'd be interesting to see how they'd do with those long fingers cut into about 3 pieces with some extra meat taken out to open up the pattern.

Then again, they could still suck even after that.. but at least they are cheap.

Buy them, shine them up real good, drop them on ebay for $300. I bet you sell them for enough to buy some real tires ;) :D

Just curious...have any of you actually run Thornbirds? I DO HATE my 38" Thornbirds -but I only bought them cause I LOVED my 35" ones. They probably suck on rocks -but there are no rocks here -just mud, dirt, snow and street -and the 35s did almost as good as my boggers off road -and not much worse than my BFGs on road.
Mind you -I think I got a freak good tire/wheel set -no wheel weights -and no need.

I umm... had some 33" ones.

Sucked in Mud, BIG TIME

Kicked ass in sand

ok in Snow you had to float on.

Rock was "ok" if temperatures were hot out. Took that much to make them sticky.

But.. the sidelugs. Why don't they put sidelugs like than on an SX. If I needed to climb something, all I had to do was turn the tires side against the obstacle and it would climb it like it was on ramps.

Damn straight! Those side lugs are like little hands.

Buy them. For that price you can't go wrong. They worked fine for me in most situations and after I grooved them up they worked even better. You've really got to play with your air pressures to figure out what works best for your truck. For me it was down around 5 psi.
