i'm not gettin spark again, after replacing the icm, it ran, now it's back to not, i've resorted to using the chilton's manual and i bought a new multimeter, it says to check the voltage between the negative coil post and D4, does anyone have any idea what D4 on a '79 CJ5 motorcraft ignition? and could it possibly be the solenoid?

Pull that FOMOCO crap out of your Jeep, and slap in a GM HEI ignition system. simplest best upgrade I have done for my I6. The FoMoCo works, but is a nightmare to trouble shoot the way you are doing it.

Remove old distributor, coil and all related wiring. Install HEI, supply with switched 12 volts. Regap plugs to .045. Install new plug wires.

There is a ton of writeups on the net regarding HEI.

Do a web search for "hei and Jeep"

Price can be done for $40 to $100ish depending on how much you pay for the HEI.
