More are coming.

Now I have mine here is the skinny:

Call Vince (who I have known for a few years now and is quite nice and very upfront and fair). He just needs to know interest so he can buy them. He works basically on spot basis so he will get a pair of axles (or a whole C303) just for you.

his website:

www.real4x4.com

Phone number is on there. (540) 353 5309

tell him I said hi.

Mine were in amazing condition. Basically they have about a quarter inch of waxyoil/cosmoline on them so they have little corosion issues (after breaking the torque I spun off the u joint bolts BY HAND!). Vince also hooked me up with some useable 35" goodyear xtragrips (look like silverstones) and they came with wheels, drag link, tie rod, brake lines, brakes were in good shape, generally high quality completely good condition stuff.

Oh, and the front BOLTS ON! Same spring spacing, except C303 uses 3in springs and series rover uses 2.5in springs (couple pieces of steel plate and I am good to go.

Rear looks easy too. It is SOA with track bars stock but the track bar mounts look like they can be modified for SUA using the inside of the spring mount. I just need some really tall jack stands to get them under the truck!

hey ron, how much does he want for a set? sounds like something awesome to plan for the range rover.

Ron,

Did you find any portals in Malaysia? Just wondering what convinced you to go with Vince. Just curious cause Malaysia is a lot closer to Aust for freight and there is guys there with new ex-mil units for 1000usd and there must be cheap used ones about.

What are you going to do about brakes?

Did you ever get a difinitive opinion worked out about putting them under a RR?

Know anyone who wants a front and rear 28 spline maxi-drive setups? Will swap for portals!

Cheers
Daryl

dam! this might be too sweet to pass up. can you tell us about the gearing and width of the axles you're getting? think double CV shafts will mount these up to a stock LT230? there's a local guy here in wa that sells the portals, but they were a bit pricey last i checked. i've liked this idea for a loooong time. if i'm lucky (waiting on pins and needles for job confirmation), i may be able to work this in time for the rally . . .

cheers

I did not find the portals, Vince did, they came from swedish C303s. I had asked him about them last October and basically he was on the look out (he is a professional importer of Mogs, Pinz, rovers and now C303s which have just become 25years old +) and he said he found some and would be bring them back in the back of a C303 and if I paid upfront they were mine (which I happily did).

If a driveshaft will fit a rover axle it will fit the C303 axles, they are that close to rover in diff length, location, and the pattern is the same. I don't think you would want cv shafts, the portals already have 5in of lift and you really need to keep the pinion level to keep the reduction hub up and down.

To fit to a RR it would be easy as any other axle with the caveat that the trailing arms would have to be beastwars.

The pretty much bolt on to a 109, and just need rear mounts to bolt to an 88.

Brakes are drums and have girling wheel cylinders. Mine have plenty of life left though a disc converstion is possible.

Gearing is supposed to be 5.99:1 but I have not verified yet.

They are WIDE but the wheels are extemely inset (like hummer rims) so they are not too much wider than stock. xtremeaxle.com has a pic and measurements.

Anymore questions?

ron - thanks for the info here. It looks like the axle tubes are square(!!) where the mounts would go - not sure if I could get tabs on there for the stocker arms or not. I'll give vince a call to see if he can give me the measurements.

with the axle stuffed so high up into the frame, i'm wondering too if a body lift might be a requisite here.

thanks again -

isaac

tabs for the stock radius arms, that is . . . rears wouldn't be a problem.

(can't edit posts without the star thingy i guess)

why would a body lift be neccessary?

in all seriousness man, i really dont think youre at the point in your rover-owning and modifying life to go portals. sure, it would be cool as hell, but your truck is STOCK right now. i think that for the time being you should go with a 2" lift and some 235/85s and see how you like it. the portals will require 35s minumum, and a jump from a stock truck to a portaled, locked, 35" tired truck is WAY excessive. take it in steps and let your driving skill catch up.

:flipoff2:

you have to understand where im coming from though... a stock range rover to a range rover on portals with lockers and 35s, way too big of a jump.

my "stock" rr has had 235/85's for a little while now . . .

sorry, i'll have to be a bit more of a DWeb picture whore so you can guage my level of "extremeness" LOL keep smoking the good shit there adam!

the reality is that i'm still waiting on background checks, reference checks, and a proctologist visit on a 5-week interview cycle with this new company (arghhh). hopefully next week will bring good news. If not, there will be no love for me in sight anyway.

The stock radius arms would fit you would just have to mount them a tad lower than stock to accomidate the squareness of the axle. Body lift, WTF? That makes so little sense, think about it, your tires are already 5in lower, why would you want a body lift? No I would say a 1-2in spring lift would be the way to go, lengthen the trailing arms and you are in business. If you need measurements I can get whatever you want.

Yes I know of the SNORT board. I have never wheeled with any of them yet because my work schedule sucks and I have to do weekday wheeling.

I know of the guys over at Unimog Wherehaus and they are all pretty cool.

The guy you speak of that has Unimog axles on his Blazer is on this list and his name is "Ryeguy."
