: YJ brake hoses

Hey,

Finally blew one of the stainless front brake hoses I bought a couple years ago......

I already have homemade extensions, but need longer than stock hoses.

Anyone have another application that works, but is longer than stock?

Stock thread is 3/16 US. Length is 20".

Try taking the hardline and bending it to mount under the frame rail instead of ontop. Thats what i did with mine and it gave me about 6" more usable line.

I did the same thing with the stock lines. It took 1/2 hour and works great. Gets the line closer to the caliper so you can run a shorter hose and it's less inclined to rub on the tire. I had a problem with longer lines rubbing on the tire and if I tied them out of the way along the shock they were not long enough when flexed.

Flip your monitor on it's side and this will show what I did

Put the line under the frame (like previously mentioned). Run an extended stainless steel line. Keep it away from the tires with a spring anchor to the frame. I flex that side and the spring stretches out. Returns to normal and pulles the line away again :D

Been ruuning this way for years and never rubbed a line.

Exactly what I was talking about.

thanks for the replies

ok......when I mentioned I already made extensions.....it puts the hard line to the bottom of the frame rail........like I said I'm looking for longer than stock hoses.

I had these extended stainless lines, and I used pretty much all of them (including the extended hard line) when flexing.

I have the same setup in the pic with the standard YJ extended brake lines. I have had a full width D44 and now a full width D60 with 40" TSL's. I have some pretty good flex and have never come close to maxing out the brake lines even when turned.

ok..... that's great

once again, this is what i am looking for.

I will describe what happens when I flex, because if I don't it will appear I am lying or at least exaggerating...

The extended lines are almost straight out, if I put stock lines back on there, I will likely be stretching the stock lines. And I don't consider my rig to have killer flex. I am running a full width 44 with hummer wheels/tires/runflats (142 lbs each).

I am looking for a cheaper alternative to buying the shitty stainless extended lines, and I figured someone may have sourced an application for a stock rubber line that could be used as an extended YJ line.

Go figure.

Buy two or three rubber YJ hoses per side. head down to your local hose supply/ fastener shop (NAPA should also work) and get the $.50 brass fittings to couple them together. Simple and cheap. In fact pull any soft lines you want (they don't have to be YJ just whatever is at the junkyard). You can put as many together as you need sir flex-a-lot. It's not brain surgery.

That last tid bit didn't answer your question?????

You can piece together however many you want to make the longest lines on earth. I don't recall ever seeing a factory line as long as an extended after-market line so I think you're stuck buying aftermarket or putting stockers together, sorry.

I thought you'd like sir flex-a-lot:D

Charly not sure if the fitting on the frame end is the same but I have some that are around 24" long.

3/8" fitting and 3/8" banjo hole.

GOt em at advanced auto parts dont know the application.
Both I have are CONI SEAL RUBBER HOSE
BH177418 REPLACES H 38183
BH177417 REPLACES H 38182

Again I got these for my CJ, and dont know if the YJ ends are the same.

HTH
Take it easy on the flex. :flipoff2:
Oh and Bigdude now you know the answer. :flipoff2:

lol...

bigdude...tongue in cheek, i get it. :D

seriously, i really don't consider my rig to flex great, and the lines do come close to being tight.

A friend of mine suggested ford ranger lines, but i am going to have to see them/measure them to check.

The extended lines I have are 23-24" (they were actually a gift), I swear i remember hearing of a stock hose that was at least that long.

EDIT: thanks Maine jeepah, I'll check that out

Not a cheap method but it worked for me.

I went to my local race shop that sells nitrous. The braided nitrous lines are made from the exact same material as the braided brake lines. I bought the 28" long line, a banjo fitting, and an adapter for the hard line mount. Works great and you can get most even length lines premade or have custom length lines made if the shop is set up.

I'm running 60's and the banjo fitting was set up for a small caliper bolt so I had to ream it out to fit. I carry a spare line with me just in case.

I have about $25 in each line.

FYI

Got one of the 38182 hoses.

It works perfectly.

It is about 24" long, cost about $20.

Thanks everyone.
