: whats up with Bart Beadlocks??
spencurai 07-29-2002, 09:29 PM i searched but came up with very little as far as experiences goes with the bart beadlocks. has anyone used these beadlocks? they look like only 16 bolt so i was wondering if they are good for anything other than stock car racing?!? they look pretty inexpensive too.
i used them for a season before i sold them. I liked them. I ran Hammers-Rubicon-Fordyce- and the street with them with no problems.
The Jerk 07-29-2002, 10:03 PM vova bought them from me, and i ran them on the street to con 5 times, jiMMy
dog walker 07-29-2002, 10:16 PM I've been running them for about three years now, three of them are great and one of them leaks like a mutha fucka! Drives me crazy! Been meaning to take it off and see if Ameriac's Tire Co. can fix it. Other than that, their prety decent wheels.

Boogerwelds is now the proud owner. He as been beating them really good too.
Red Chevy Girl 07-29-2002, 11:14 PM I ran the set I had for about three years and had no problems on the trail with them the only problem i did have with them was on winding roads it would pop a couple of bolts off (but not all the time) but it is easy to fix, otherwise they are good.

!!! WTF were you driving, a subaru WRX rally!?! that scares the hell outta me when you are popping bolts off!! anyway did you guys have the kit that you weld onto some rims?? that is the only kind i could find on the net. do oyu have to trim the lip off the rim or are they weld straight on. my buddy has a set of them in a box down at the shop but i haven't fooled with them to see if they are straight weld on??!! it sounds like you have had pinhole problems if one is leaking badly?!?
thanks for the replies. you have been very helpful:D :D

High5 07-30-2002, 12:45 AM i ran some for about 6 months before i went 8 lug. i never had a problem but the rings are on the thin side compared to other makes. that is why i didn't get them again.

this is the WRX rally. it is a hot car if you like rally-cross. it is the rest of the worlds version of BAJA i guess!! and just so this subtopic qualifies for this section, yes it is a 4 wheel drive.

NE-RokToy 07-30-2002, 10:23 AM I think those are the wheels I have now (bought them used) and they are great on the street with 37" SSR's I didnt even need to balance them. Off road havent tested much but will hopefully soon.
rockmutt 07-30-2002, 11:29 AM i think aggro runs Barts on the cruiser
frankie fountain 07-30-2002, 11:36 AM i have a smokin deal on 32 bolt bead lock wheels 15x10 165 thousandths locks 8 lug or 5lug and 6 lug $165.00 per wheel no paint 2.5 ton are more.205-594-5098 frankie mrt hase a nice wheel they just started the owner came by the shop yesterday and we now are a dealer for theme but they are pricy.
wngrog 07-30-2002, 12:10 PM As for sheering bolts off, I have known a number of people that have done this on all makes of beadlocks by over-tightning the bolts.
MR4WD 07-30-2002, 12:25 PM I run 15x14's with 44" boggers. Apparently boggers have a wider bead than most tires, making it impossible for the two sides of the ring to clamp to clamp firmly together. When I air down on the trail to around 5 psi, nothing happens. When I air back up to 20ish, and drive home I always pop the bolts on the front set. I carry a pair of 6" channel locks and a 1/2" wrench so I can remove and reinstall the grade 8 bolts with new (which I also carry with me)
It's an easily distinguishable sound, every time the bogger goes around you can here a "fip, fip, fip, fip" even at around 65MPH. Pull over and replace it ASAP. Either that, or risk breaking the bolts around it from the added stress. I'd say that 32 bolts would be better in this application, but you'll still have a splayed outer ring just begging to break the heads off the bolts. You need to somehow take up the gap in between the rings in order for a proper fix. I was at FWPW this weekend and a guy who runs a mud bogger runs carbon fiber wheels and had a similar problem. He used a sheet of 1/8th plastic and cut it out with a band saw (the same o.d. as the bead, and the same i.d. as the bead lock) and drilled his 32 holes on a drill press. He stacked the sheets two per wheel and siliconed the shit out of em. NO leaks, no broken bolts no problems. I plan on using 1/4" or 3/8" teflon (which I incidentally have lots of) and cutting it out with a router and drilling it to space the gap in my wheels.
Other than that, the Barts are ridiculously strong and even light for a 15" wheel. A 16.5" in the same size is about 15 pounds heavier.
spencurai 07-30-2002, 01:24 PM i dont plan on running boggers since i am mostly a slickrock guy. are these BEADLOCKS (http://www.bartwheel.com/beadlock.htm) pretty easy to install. i mean i building my own link suspension and all but i have never put a set of DIY beadlocks on some rims. anyone have some good write-ups.
rockmutt 07-30-2002, 02:19 PM make some home made MRT's......thats what i did, and i went to 3/8's, (36 3/8 bolts!) i had to fab up my own inner ring:flipoff2:
