I am planning for the next level and tires will be the center around the suspension mods. Keep in mind this is for a 3/4 Ton Travelall and I live in the desert.
I like the idea of the Military tires for most of the desert stuff I will be doing and have thought of getting a set or two of these:

Anyone run these before? What can I expect for use on mild rock stuff and mud? Any other ideas on how to go?

Thats a screaming deal on a set of 4 tires if they are as good of tread as in the pictures.
Jump on them.
Score a set of H1 Beadlocks (with run flats) to go with them, some 2-3" wheel spacers too keep the trackwidth and go to town with something you can air down for decent traction. Cut-to-Fit :D [the t-all] I'm guessing the same guy that has the tires has wheels as well.
The old-skool GY MT is a good tire, in its day. There are better ones today but for a while they and the BFG MT were top of the hill. For that price I'd rock a set. Look for dry-rot or weather cracking and probably pick up a spare or too. IIRC they aren't made anymore do if you kill one, you out of luck.

The same guy has the combo for $500.

I guess you brought up the point I was worried about, that being the age of the tire. The same tires are for sale brand new on ebay for $500, but again the mfg. date becomes the issue.
