: 1500s can't pull for shit!
Two Dogs F..king 07-29-2002, 10:20 PM My 1995 GMC z71 w/ the stock 350 can't pull for shiat. It was going about 30 mph up a hill pulling my 78. Plus it dind't want to stop. I am going to have to make this 78 street legal if I want to get it to the mud races!
Whoaa! Stop the presses!! Here's some news we didn't know! :flipoff2:
BTW, nice signature.
GRMhick 07-30-2002, 12:02 AM was it on a trailer with breaks?

I believe it, get a FORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yup. I had a '90 Z71 with a TBI 350 & I have only towed a couple of full-size trucks behind it. One was a Blazer on 1-ton running gear with 38.5's & a big-block. REALLY struggled pulling that. Truth be told, the truck was kind of marginal towing Jeeps & Toys. Totally overmatched hauling anything more. FWIW, my new 2500HD with the 6.0L towed my racer to & from Platte this past weekend at 75 MPH with the AC on :D

Or dodge, my 1500 w/ 360 and automatic doesn't have any problems pulling steep grades. The slowest I've ever gone was 55mph in 2nd gear WOT. Thats pulling a 9,000lb trailer.
Chevy and GMC both, I've seen their 1/2 ton, I think of them as a 1/4 ton. ;)
road1will 07-30-2002, 09:19 AM DUDE YOURE GAY
why dont you throw some dubs on that mud bogger and then it will be cool, and a hell of a lot easier to tow!
fawking idiot!
snacksnack 07-30-2002, 10:51 AM and a whooping 200 hp so whats the point here?:flipoff2:

Well, my dad had a 1500 TBI GMC with the 350, which he sold to me (the truck I described above as being my prior tow rig). He then got a 1500 Ram with a 360. And you know what? It has NEVER towed as well as that 350 powered truck. Dad & I have both used both trucks extensively & have both reached the same conclusion. And a '96 or newer 350 will REALLY make that "Magnum" 360 look stupid. Bottom line, your 1500 is just as sucky a tow-rig as anyone else's. Ditto for F150's. I've spent plenty of time traveling with guys who had injected 351-powered to rigs & they were absolutely NO better than my TBI 350, which is to say they too SUCKED for towing anything heavier than a Jeep.
TEX
Travis Waldher 07-31-2002, 07:06 AM I've driven both, the 360 has always seemed to have more grunt than a 350. The other thing my truck has that I have noticed most trucks don't due to the owner not wanting it. 3.92 gears with 31" tires, and maybe its all in the gearing.
I haven't had a problem towing my Jeep, if I built a trailer that only weighed 1500lbs vs the 3,000 it is now, as well as having no plans on towing two jeeps on a trailer. The half ton would be staying around for a long time. It keeps up with everyone else that doesn't have a NEWER Cummins or Powerstroke under the hood.
I have towed a better trailer, probably only weighed 6,000lbs between the Jeep and the trailer. The truck towed it like it wasn't even back there. that 9,000lb trailer, you know its back there, the truck doesn't accelerate real fast (never claimed it did), but gets up to 70-75 and does the mountain passes like that without much trouble. Even accelerates on a mountain pass.
Truth be told, if I wasn't concerned about the automatic, and I didn't want to tow more. The truck would get a better exhaust, larger radiator, and ~4.20 gearing and I would be happy with towing that larger trailer.
Dude, I recomend deleting that signature soon. That is gonna get you in trouble with the locals.
As for the truck, get a 3/4 ton or better yet, 1 ton. Any of the big three wont let you down, they are all good trucks...I mean, DODGES RULE, FORD'S DRULE!:D

Ditto, exept fot the big three part.
Ya'll is forgetting the best manufacturer of the best trucks out there.
Matt
Gettin it with a 800 lbs small block.
tail_lite 08-02-2002, 11:18 PM Don't you know ??? When you run a motor with TBI , you need the powerchip. My '97 Tahoe doesn't have that problem....
OCNORB 08-03-2002, 05:15 AM Half ton trucks are glorified cars. I think I know the problem- get rid of some of this:rainbow: stuff and your truck should handle it no prob-Moroso motor dress-up kit,home-made middle console, Pioneer components, Lund Visor, Chrome Roll Bar with 2 lights on roll bar and 4 backup lights on rear bumper, Chrome Grill, and Ladder Bars.
:flipoff2:
I figure taking this shit off should lighten your rig up to where your truck should fly past the Powerstrokes and the Cummins boys!!!
Two Dogs F..king 08-03-2002, 09:17 PM All that shtuff was on there when I bought it. I like that ":rainbow:" stuff anyway. I don't see what is so gay about any of that to begin with.
mrnatural 08-05-2002, 09:00 PM what i wanna know is the truck a "floater" because it looks like shit or is it a "aquaman" reference? are you a pool guy or something?
OCNORB 08-05-2002, 11:50 PM Your right - the shits not:rainbow: ,but listing it all in your sig line is!:flipoff2:

A: We don't care about crap on your rig that doesn't make it WORK better. You don't see any of us listing rock lights, but most of us have them...
B: No one cares about a heavy duty bumper with a winch MOUNT. put a winch (8274) on it, and just say "8274" in your sig. We'll ALL know you have it mounted to something heavy duty.
C: Why do you NEED 4 backup lights anyway?
D: Chrome anything on the outside of your rig is :rainbow:
Shorten your sig. Try: '78 K10, 10/14bolt, 8" susp/3" body, 39.5x18 Boggers, 402 with stuff.. Isn't that better?
Oh yeah.. welcome :flipoff2:
tsm1mt 08-07-2002, 02:24 PM A half ton, does not a tow rig make.
Been there, tried that - bought the 1T 4dr and retired the 1/2T to daily driver duty. :D
Night and day difference in stopping, going, and cornering.
And on the motor thread.. my tired, carb'd 700lbs 345 SV 8cyl (Small V) pulls 14,500lbs just fine and get about 9.5mpg doing it.
The 406cid SV I'm building will handle the load even better - which means it'll be time for a bigger trailer..
