Okay guys i need some help.. I scrapped my 4 link plans so heres where im at. I just finished the 396 BB chevy swap in my 95 YJ. I have the rockwells, 47" LTB's, I just ordered the blue torch rear stretch kit and the mountain off road shackle reversal. Charles at alcan spring is gonna build me some leaf spring that should get me around a 112 inch WB. THere just a little longer than XJ springs. Also, i have poison spider tube fenders, and full comp cut corners. So my question is how much lift. I was figuring in fabbing up 1 and a half in tall spring perches for the rocks so i can dial in the pinion angle and make sure the caster is good. But im trying to figure out if 6 or 8 inches of lift will be good to make everything clear....ie....oil pan, chunk to radiator in front.. Sorry its so long winded but any thought would be awesome

Depends on how much up travel you want? I have roughly 4" uptravel before the diff clearances my oil pan. It is something that you would have to figure out. This is in a cherokee, with the stock 4.0

oh yeah , sorry bout that. I am in texas and we run mostly mud and rocks like clayton oklahoma. I am not so much interested in compression travel as much as droop. I planned on running teraflex revolvers and letting the rockwell weight do the work. I was kinda interested to see if anyone had any pictures with a spring over and a 6 or 8 inch spring. I know thats alot but i was just kinda curious.

STAY AWAY from revolvers......there junk and will unload on you at any unpredicted time on off camber situations....Do a search on them. I would suggest a standard shackle of some sort. Good luck with the build, i'll be watching as i am building a yj buggy with rocks. If you don't mind me asking, why did you ditch the 4 link setup?

. I ditched the 4 link because i found after talking to alcan we can get my wheelbase around 112 inches. So for less than half the price i can build a suspension just as flexy as a 4 link. and it may have had something to do with the fact that i put the Big block 396/turbo 350/ 203-205 doubler in this weekend and realized how little room there is to properly do a rockwell 4 link and i wanted to keep the belly flat.

i have a 90 yj that is spring over with chevy 6" springs. i put a shackle reversal in the front and a rear shackle from a chevy on the back of the front spring. on the rear i used the yj main leaf and the rest of a 6" spring pack from a chevy.all springs mount in factory location. it also has a big block in it(454 injected).i clear 44 inch boggers without rubbing but i installed tj flares to open up the wheel wells also.this make for a 32 inch belly height at the skid plate.kinda hard to get into but it sure turns heads.can't post pics here but pm me your e-mail and i'll send you some photos. would also like to see pics of yours. i am also thinking of going to rockwells and pulling my 60 and 14 bolt. know of any good deals on rockwells,if so let me know in your pm to me. thanks,cheepjeep90

........ So my question is how much lift.......
Well, I'm from the school likes to be as low as possible (less uptravel/more down) and flat springs tend to flex better than arched springs. I'd stick with as flat of springs as you can, but you may have to add arch to use the Rocks (I'm a wuss and run 60/14 bolt) for clearance issues? 6 or 8" of lift is gonna be a TALL sucka.
I'd still do a nice link suspension if I had a choice (I'm slowly buying parts to change mine to a link). Charles builds a sweet spring, but I don't think it'll last as long as a well setup link suspension.

we are using a 4 inch rear chevy spring in the front of my 7u8 f250 build. we droped both the front shackle and rear spring hanger with square tubing to gget most of the lift needed. the truck will only be used for mud and some trails

what a lot of ppl forget is that it take some planing to get a 4 link to work like it should. I always tell ppl that are tring to do there own link that an O.K. leaf spring system is a lot better then a bad 4 link set up. And like a few other ppl said, keep it low. tall trucks are for shows, not rocks.
