The earlier systems still retained ignition points. Pretty easy to by pass the ignitor on those.

On my '79 FJ40 it has a coil pickup... so you need the ignitor, or the GM generic item mounted on aluminum plate (heat sink), to replace the OEM unit.

Darn move... I have my manuals, and notebooks, all in storage as it will be a while before I have a shop/office. That darn emission computer need a signal from the ignitor too. I can not think of the color hook ups of the top of my head.
