: Wheeling with broken motor mount?

Here's the situation, '93 wrangler with 4.0. The motor mount on the drivers side broke. It sheared two of the three bolts off, leaving the studs in the engine block. I was able to remove one of them, however the other is stuck in there good, and very hard to get to. There isn't much room in there.

For easier access you might be able to pull the headers, other than that you'd have to pull the entire engine.

So here's the question, should I say screw it, and wheel with a motor mount that's being held on with 2 out of the 3 bolts? Or get it out and fix it?

Bah, to hell with fixin it. Just to be on the safe side you will need an indicator of how its doing, so remove half of your lug nuts, then when a wheel falls off you'll know its time to check on the motor mount:rolleyes: .

Remember that Newton guy? that whole equal and opposite reaction thingy? Well those bolts deal with the opposite reaction of the driveshaft turning your tires, so they need all the help they can get. So I'd git under there and fix the thing.

On a side note, why is it that 6 cylinders break the driver side mount while the 4 bangers break the passenger side?

Actually , I have a 94 YJ , and i just got through replacing my drivers side mount , I wouldnt advise wheelin with a broke mount , my whole transfercase , and transmission was moving all around with mine.. It only took about 30 min to replace the mount , but you broke a bolt off, . Just fix it , if its worth doing , the do it right the first time:p

either do it right the first time and forget about it or pay tripple for it later, i learned that lesson the hard way

Let's see, if you don't fix it right, one day you will be wheelin an dthe mount will break again, you will be mile from nowhere, and have to get towed all the way back to camp, and then probably home. Then, you will have to fix it right anyways.
OR, you could fix it right now, and eliminate all the inbetween shit.

...and with my luck, right in front of me. I hat it when people don't fix their shit properly. It's one thing to break somehthing when you're wheelin'. It's another thing to wheel broken, half-ass-repaired junk and make everybody wait for you to get your stupid ass off the trail.

If it broke with 3 bolts, what makes you think it won't break with only two holding it?

I say fix it right the first time but

If its that much of a pain in the ass, then at least cable the motor tight to the frame this way the motor wont want to pull from the mount.

I have todo that on my 360 because it tears mounts every other month.

I have my v8 chained to the frame....I've not broke a motor mount since.

You could always keep wheelin until the other bolt free's itself from the constant vibration:D

Man you better fix that thing, because if I ever came across someone having problems because they didn't fix something they knew was wrong I would help them but only after calling them a a stupid ass mother F*cker! You could have some serious problems because of it...I broke my drivers side motot mount and because of it my oil filter got a hole punched thru it and luckily I was right in the middle of the 'con. Later

Oh ya carry a spare filter and oil:flipoff2:
