hi everybody,
I recently picked up a '90 ford D60 Hp front axle and want to put it under my '93 jeep Yj. The Jeep spring pads are about 30" wide and the Ford is 35.5" wide with the spring pad perch next to the pumpkin:homer:. Has anybody got any suggestions. Thanks, Greg

Really.

Next time, why don't you have some idea what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Just to play it safe, you should probably not say anything.

Go outside and play with the other children now. Preferably in the street.

Greg,

you're going to have to run outboard springs or start some fairly major surgery on that axle, if you're going to keep the leaf springs. I wouldn't try to outboard the springs on that particular axle, unless you don't mind your tires rubbing the springs all the time.

Personally, I'd link it.

Next time, perhaps take some of your own advice.

Simple solution.

YJ spring pad width is 31.5".

The Axle pad width should be 36.5" for a 1990 HP D60(according to the Dana 60 Bible).

Cut off long side spring perch, cut off long side inner 'C', cut off a total of 5" of long side tube (INCLUDING the length of tube you just cut off with the inner C... 5" TOTAL), put inner C back on, weld, put on new spring perch (weld), done. (That's extremely simplified, do a search and you can see the methods used quite successfully).

If he's unsure how to do the above, saying "link it" is the wrong answer as well. :shaking:

I just got done doing my front d60 install. Donor was a 89 F350. reciever was a 93 YJ. Exactly same boat as you are. Here is the link:

All the fabrication starts on page 4

Or like Indy said, cut the long side down. But then you gotta source out custome inner shaft for that side.

I chose the outboarding because I wanted to keep my front axle stock (F350) width. Either way, it involves work and fabrication.

And, what if he wants to run it full width? Even if he doesn't, while that doesn't constitute extreme surgery, it does leave a very short drivers side tube, so you will still have to deal with the tire rubbing on the spring. I am perfectly capable of cutting the tube and welding the knuckle, but it doesn't get the tire any farther away from the spring. If I was doing it, I'd want the drivers side lengthened, as well as shortening the Passenger side. That pretty much runs into the major surgery category, as I stated.

For my money, I'd just link the damn thing and call it good.
By the time you spend the time and effort on modifying the axle to fit properly, you could have it linked.

That's my 2 cents worth, If you don't like it, then I guess we'll both just have to live with it.

Oh, watch out for cars, now.
