: How many full hydro D60 knuckles have you seen broken?
RockRover 07-30-2002, 10:06 AM Okay...So what's the likelihood anyway? Assuming the through isn't too great and NOT hitting the stops at full lock.
I've buttoned up my full-hydro (double through) ram, on a pair of Aval. hy-steer arms (reversed). I've got grade 8 studs holdin' it all together (chev king-pin 60).
Then I was on the phone with Mike (of Parts Mike) and he suggested using a .25" dowel through the arm and then into the knuckle...That way the stress is traveling through the dowel stock (surrounded by a bunch of the casting) first...Sounds good to me...What do you guy's think?
Old Scout 07-30-2002, 10:12 AM I never known PM to give bad advice.
i have seen two break.
welder boy broke one in half on crack line and billy bob broke one in half at carnage for the con.
i will be running welder boys new fabricated knuckles.
RockRover 07-30-2002, 10:40 AM Tell me more about the nucks Camo.
RokHeep 07-30-2002, 10:46 AM I have seen 3 break.
I am running mine similar to Bob's, ram mounted to the cast in steering arm and tierod on the high steer arms. Rams are cheap and small enough to carry a spare...
WB's knuckles are $1400 per pair last I checked.

camo,
are these the inner and outer knuckles? do you have any pics?
bgreen 07-30-2002, 07:51 PM Nothing against the manufacturer of these arms, but I get that you will bend the steering arm before you break the knuckle.
High5 07-30-2002, 09:35 PM i run the tie rod in the stock location with my hydraulic ram mounted to it. i have heard it is more likely to break when using hydraulic in conjunction with high steer arms. anyway....

Chris Geiger 07-30-2002, 11:04 PM On my setup I put small sleeves in the ram to limits the ram's travel. Now the ram stops right at the same time the knuckle hits the steering stop.

Damn good idea
FULLSIZE 07-31-2002, 09:46 PM On my setup I put small sleeves in the ram to limits the ram's travel. Now the ram stops right at the same time the knuckle hits the steering stop. the ones i've seen break(2) were because the tire was wedged straight ahead and the ram was still pushin for it.;)
