I'm in the process of putting my 14 bolt back together. I can't remember which way the outer bearing faced...

Does the Taper go inwards like a front hub so it will just fall off when you remove the nut... or does it go outwards requiring you to put it in before the inner bearing?

The outer bearing is installed though the inside of the hub with the taper facing the middle of the rearend, then the race goes in acording to the direction of the bearing , then goes the snap ring to hold it in. I have had problems with the snap ring so you might get the new updated ones from you local GM dealer just a couple of bucks and well worth it.
