I have been plaining an upgrade to the syko turd and have been all over the place with what axles to build. So give me a little help. Keep in mind that I'm running an 82 scrambler with a 304, t-18a, and soon to be a dana 300 transfer. I will be running no larger then 36" tires (currently 35"boggers) to stay in the legends class for EROCC. I have access to a rear FF 60 for cheap and I'm sure I could pay high dollar for a front 60 but I'm worried about ground clearance. As of right now I have a set of scout II dana 44's for free.
So with that being said

I can get:
Warn inners and outers
4.88's
install kits
detroit soft locker for the front
for $1199

I will add:
CTM's - $300
Rear spool - $150 ish
Hardened Dutchman rear axles - $370-$395

So for a little over $2000 what do you think? Any one run the Dutchman hardened 5150 rear axles?

Do you guys think I'm wasting my time/money?

I think it sounds like a good plan. And with that setup you could throw 37's or 38x12.5's on it if they ever changed the rules, or you were wheeling out of season. I would say 38's are the limit for 44's though.

If you decide to use the scout 44 front make sure you ditch the outers for the ford 5 lug outers. Scout used some crapy D30 outers on there 44s and that will be your problem.

weight is the main factor. i would try a 44 up to maybe 3200 lbs then i would go 60's

warns and ctm's are the key to 44's.

for competition selectable lockers front and rear are a must.

I would go 60's, and shave them as much as possible. I would also go up to a 36" tire.

The key to any competition is finishing. The 44 with 36's is solid, but not invinsible. A 60 with a 36, you can do anything you want with it, and not worry.

I would go with ARB's all the way around, at the very least the front end, so turning becomes less of an issue.

I'll vote for a 60 too. Definately shaved.
I've seen you drive, I think you'll be needing one. :D
I have a good source for 60 fronts, lemme know if you want hooked up.
You looking full width?

HMMMM?????

I'm not to hard on things:D

Thanks I'll let you know if I decide to go 60.
As far a me finding a front 60- I was under the impression that the farmers around me didn't know what they had. I was wrong. Every one I talked to wants at least $800 for a junk front. I have been looking for a few months and haven't come up with anything for a good price. (I have no problem finding rears) This is what prompted the buildup idea of the scout 44's. FYI, I already have the front under my rig.

As far as full width, I really don't want to cut them down. I like a 59"-60" axle. It's not to wide and easily fits on my trailer.

I almost forgot...............Thanks for the info guys

I have also looked at the warn full foater kit with slugs. Do you guys think this would be better then the Dutchman axles?

Syko, Not that I saw anything wrong with your idea for building up a 44. If your doing a 44, that's the way to do it.
Sounds like your closer to finishing if you go that route.
I wouldn't BS you, cutting down and shaving a 60 isn't a piece of cake, like some say it is. Pile of work.
:D Just to tempt you though, I saw a front Dodge 60 on e-bay a little bit ago for 250 if I'm not mistaken.

I'm building a new rig - TJ frame, stripped tub, and 35s for Stock Modifieds.
I already have a 3.25" tubed Currie 44 with Warn alloys and internal spline hubs, CTMs and upgraded knuckles.
Directing basically your same question to a couple of the top local Farmington builder & competitor gurus the concensus was, "your 44 just won't hold up".
So I'm building 60s.
Breaking in competition is no fun.
