" I really did pucker up big time - very tense and rigid. My back was bad when I got in and afterwards I was cured miraculously - after that first major impact. " - Pa ((about his first off-road ride)

After many months of trying , I finally got my father ( Pa) into my passenger seat for some off-roadingthis weekend . We went miles and miles back into the woods over some very nasty rocks and nice mud bogs. Far enough to where I knew he was scared of having to walk out :flipoff2: At the largest mudhole he suggested turning around because, " Son, to get stuck now would be such a denouement " ( greatest Pa line ever!!)

Anyway - we bonded and as he is from Belfast he naturally loves land rovers - and now he will be buying one for himself to show me the "right" way to do it .

So here's to my Pa - :flipoff2: and bring it on old man.

The dad story is great!

I come at it from the other end. After owing a Series 2a and a IH scout, I got out of 4x4ing for many years and got into dirt bike riding. As I got older, I healed much slower and decided it was time to get out of dirt biking. One day, one of my graduate students (I have to admit one of my favorite students as you will see below) took me out in his FJ40, and I was re-hooked. He was heavily involved in my suspension design classes and I found sum funding to supported him to do some research on the design of a small off-road vehicle. Not long afterwards, I sold my bike and bought the d90.

Not long after that, he married my daughter! So now we have two fanatical 4x4er?s in the family (my daughter also loves 4x4ing and has fond memories of the dirt bike I bought her when she was 12). I have to admit, it is easy to buy gifts for my son-in-law J. A couple of years ago, my daughter wanted to buy Chris a locker for his FJ as a gift. ?One is not enough if he wants to wheel with his father-in-law? I said and I bought him the second one as a gift.
