: Pissssed!!!!
SMART ASS 07-30-2002, 06:42 PM County of sac, gave us a citation (Retard and Smart Ass) for auto parts arround the yard... and "Major Auto Repairs" ...
 FUK Im pissed!!!
any one had to deal with this???
we still have a week or two left of work on retards sas project
SMART ASS 07-30-2002, 06:45 PM What do they want us to do?
I definitely cant afford a real auto shop to preform work on my vehicles, i gotta do em my self!
What about the tools? the citation said were not alloud to have tools on the premis, RETARD just bought this house!!!
Rokcrler 07-30-2002, 06:53 PM I had a similar experiance too. I live in Alabama, and was sited for having 'too many non driving vehicles'. I had 2 Jeeps with jackstands on their front axles and tools around. The judge thew it out on the condition that i make them 'appear' to be running. He whispered to me to at least put front tires on them.
I'd fight the citation, but check with the city on number of vehicles allowed to being 'worked on'.
Good luck
Flatty 07-30-2002, 06:58 PM Legally they are right. You can't have a nonmovable vehicle in your yard for more tahn 72 hours I think. Also you can not perform extensive auto repairs on your property, unless it is in the garage. I bed your house that one of your neighbors ratted you out about it, because you will not get busted unless a complaint is filed.
Dimitri
Rudezuk 07-30-2002, 06:59 PM Did they say what the code number was or how to find out information about it......
I have a neighbor 8 houses down from me that tried to get my immediate neighbors to sign a petition or something to file a claim against me....Id like to know what the law is!

I was told by this neighbor that you are not even supposed to work in your garage??

SMART ASS 07-31-2002, 01:17 AM Im going to propose to the zoning commission a 60 day "MAJOR VEHICLE REPAIR PASS" much like if you dont pass smog, you get 90 days from the DMV to fix your vehicle... Why not a once a year 60 day pass???
Blk69stang 07-31-2002, 03:28 AM Geez, and I thought I lived in the "Land of the Free". When the fawk did this country become Communist? I get so pissed over crap like this. Who the heck are they to tell someone what they can and can't do on their property if it's not hurting anyone else? Whatever happened to "a man's home is his castle"? Time to put up a 12' high fence, with a gate, and tell them to fawk off and get a warrant next time they come knockin'.
Maine Jeepah 07-31-2002, 04:06 AM It may be cost prohibitive at the moment, but if he is planning on staying there, I would have a totally legal fence, either installed, or a DIY job that is done to code.
If people complain then...you have the complainers arrested for tresspassing, and or being "peeping toms".
From all the crap I read...its nice weather and all In CA, but it sounds like a shitty place to live as far as personal freedoms.
I understand the whole deal with people not wanting to drive by Sanford and Sons every day in their neighborhood, but if you keep it orderly, and do stuff in your garage I think its ridiculous for people to complain.
Go around to all the neighbors and tell em to get fucked!

WheelingPiazza 07-31-2002, 04:13 AM A little off topic but,
My uncle is a rancher has been for over 50 years. He finally sold his apricot orchard in tracy. WHY? because it was costing him more to operate then he could make. The goverment basiclly put so many restrictrions on farming, spraying, planting, working that in the end it wasnt worth it.
You see farms and orchards go up in a dust ball, Its not because the farmer doesnt want to farm any more, its our freaken goverment that doesnt allow them to farm and make a living.

Once you know which neighbor it is, you should make it a point to 'breakdown' once a week in front of the fawkin shack.
Then use a powertank or your onboard air system and just sit there using air tools.

Explorer 07-31-2002, 09:51 AM I can see this type of situation from both sides. I work on my own vehicles at home and do major repairs, but I don't leave tons of crap in front of my house for all to see (not saying that you do).
My neighbor has been attempting to paint his '77 Chevy Stepside for the past 9 months, he has the thing taken apart and all the parts are piled against the side of his house in the front yard. First that's all that was there, now he is piling a busted water heater a swamp cooler and a bunch of other crap over there. He put one of those temporary car shelters up over the truck. The first big windstorm we had tore the tarp to shreds. I now feel like I'm living next to a skid row dump.
Belly Dragger 07-31-2002, 09:52 AM SmartAss, I designed a garage for Randii here on the board to solve this very dilema. It appears as though one of his neighbors had it in for him and everytime he changed a tire they called and out came the county.
The garage will solve this problem. In your case I'd look into cheap visibility barriers that the county would approve you to build/use since you don't intend to build a garage.

I am so glad I left Kaifornia 19 years ago :')
It said "Using tools not normally found in a residence;"
Hell in my residence, and that of those I am failure with.. Every tool up to a Bridgeport, 72" lathe and $30k worth of hand and power tools is normal..... SO what is normal?? and who gets to decide?
A better question..... why live in a state with laws like that? It would be one thing if you moved in to a housing area with local covenants that restricted such work, in that case it would be your problem.. But having a state law (or was that Sac county?) flat out deny you the right to work on your own vehicles on your own property…..Nope, time to move…….Yes I know not an option for many…I guess go make peace with your neighbors, work only in “locally” acceptable hours. THEN MOVE….when you can.
Rerard 07-31-2002, 10:12 AM Damn you guys are getting hella crazy ... fences, garages, proposals.
I was just gonna handle it the old fashion way, TP my neighbors house :D
Travis Waldher 07-31-2002, 10:54 AM We have similar issues in our neighborhood. No major car work, etc. But it is never enforced for one of several reasons I assume:
1) I clean up at the end of the day and keep things orderly
2) I don't make any noise after 8-9pm that can be heard the next house over.
3) There are enough ordanances everyone has an infraction. (If I go down, I'll take them all down with me.)
4) The driveway has got to be a freak show sometimes, entertaining the neighbors. :p

Same here, I work on my junk but put it all in the garage @ night. I bet if you just talked to the neighbors and explained that when you're done with the SAS it will be cleaned up they'll prob. understand And they would be ok with the occasional "axle swap"
Post a pic of the front yard and see what "we" think.:D
PTSchram 07-31-2002, 11:59 AM Second time at trying to post.
I have been fighting the same fight for 20 years.
When my family moved into the house I now own, the road in front was dirt. Now, it's five lanes with a wal-mart across the road and the city says my land will never go commercial.
My farm truck has been cited as abandoned three times. Once, I crashed it taking it to demonstrate its operational status.
My next door neighbor's son works third shift at Steak N Shake. He came home one morning, went to sleep and awoke to find a note on his car indicating it was abandoned and he had to demonstrate it operational, or move it. He thought, I move it every day... 20 days later, he comes home and goes to bed. Wakes up to find a ticket on the door with a fine for $250. When he called the city, they told him his car had already been crushed as it was more than three years old and had less than $500 in value.
To make matters worse, to appeal a citation, one must pay $500. If you're found to be innocent of the charges, the city refinds $450 back to you. It costs $50 to prove the city was wrong and you should have been allowed to go along and do what you were doing.
I received a $500 fine for having a roof that was severely deteriorated. The roof was less than a week old!
As for putting up a fence, here in Fort Wayne, IN, you must apply for permission to erect a fence and then, the city retains the right to enter at any time to ensure complaince with applicable codes. My sister leaves her dogs out all the time with a dog door! She says, bring it on!
It is not legal in Fort Wayne to change your own oil in your driveway. You may not leave your lawn mower out over night. I'm being cited currently for having a roll-off bin in my driveway. The city told me I couldn't put large amounts of trash out at the curb and I had to have a roll-off (I'm cleaning out the house my father lived in for 40 years...). so far, we've dumped more than 16,000# of trash and now, the city wants to fine me $50/day that I have the roll-off. If you don't have the roll-off and don't clean up, they'll send someone in to clean it up for you-and place a lien against a piece of your proprty-not necessarily the one that had the problem.
Some day, I'll move to the woods.
Paul
Sounds like you need a bigger peice of property. Most of the people who get into these situations are trying to do car work in a house with a little yad. I have had many vehicles in my feild for years, and nobody cares because they can't see them. Just move out of the suburbs and you should be ok.

Uh yeah you probably already know this but what you just described is a classic scam by the town/city, and the tow/salvage people.
They used to pull shit like that in the city of Boston years ago....probably still do, to some extent.

Simple Man 07-31-2002, 12:41 PM Every day I'm glad I moved from California to Nevada.
I make it a point to be friendly with all of my neighboors. If it's a really noisy project I close the garage doors. If it has to sit in the driveway for any amount of time, I throw a cover over it.

PTSchram 07-31-2002, 02:39 PM I have 1.83 acres on a very busy street. All of my neighbors think I'm outrageously wealthy because I have two houses on two contiguous lots. They all see dollar signs anytime they drive past. I suspect that if I had a smaller yard, there would be less jealousy.
As for the person who made the comment about the removal of "junk cars" as a scam perpetrated by the city and towing companies, when I ran for city council, I complained long and hard about the Neighborhood Nazis and was met by great resistance, was told the law was going to be changed so that when your vehicle was tagged for the third time, it would automatically be confiscated, and finally (this one really pissssed me off!), the laws were popular! Popular to whom you might ask-the neighborhood association presidents! These assholes have nothing better to do than snoop around someone else's property to look for "Violations".
During the same election, the now-mayor was cited!
If you can, vote. If you care, vote Libertarian.
Paul T. Schram
Former Libertarian candidate for Allen County, IN Sheriff (yeah, if you knew me you'd laugh louder), and former candidate for Fort Wayne City Council, 3rd. district. Ran for precinct committeeman as a Republican and got beaten by my neighborhood association president!

I have 3 acres and I still got a letter fro the City here in redneck-nowhere TN for having too many in-op vehicles...
Seems the laws were written back in 1982, when the city of Spring Hill was about 100 yards by 100 yards square, and all the houses were right beside each other. Then, the laws about non-running vehicles being left in the yard made sense.
But fastforward to 2002 and the city has expanded it's borders in order to capitolize on the growth in the area... Unfortunately, they never bothered to make the changes to the laws to reflect the changing times.
I mean geez - my clisest neighbor is 150 yards away.... COME ON!
I talked to the city - the guy brushed it off, said he has to send those letters out when someone complains - told me not to worry about it :p
I have a 30x40 shop now, so there is only one unregistered vechile outside, and even it is running and drivable, stored behind the shop, and mostly hidden by trees :p

I have this same kind of neighbor where i live......He self appointed himself the head of the CC&R and the head of the neighborhood watch..................................I dont live in a gated community, Yes it is nice but not gated..........We do all of our work in the garage, we clean up our mess, and we are not working past 9pm, if we do then we close the garage doors.
But this guy still insists on being the neighborhood dick head..........including one time when he actually got in my face threatening me.............................................We are waiting for that to happen again! :D
Rerard 07-31-2002, 03:07 PM Hey I just had an idea... if I TP the bitch's house can I then report her for storing rubbish in the trees?
SeanP 07-31-2002, 03:44 PM Yep, the Sacto county code sucks. But it does control the egregious violators from trashing neighborhoods. I live in River Park area of Sacramento and I have swapped engines, dropped tranny several times, swapped axles and had the rig on jack stands for a few weeks. The reason that I have not been hassled is that I am on good terms with my neighbors.
1) Introduce yourself to all of your neighbors as soon as you move in to a neighborhood.
2) Periodically chit-chat on the curb and let people know you are a responsible homeowner. Offer a beer
3) Wave to em
4) Let them know that you will be starting a project that will keep the rig looking "unrunning" and how long.
5) Clean up every night. Put away all the tools, spare parts, etc.
You guys are young and unfortunately your neighbors will judge you before they know you. If you introduce yourself to your neighbors you will get an idea of who you pissed off (any late parties recently, any friends lighting up their tires on your street?)

IronBenderII 07-31-2002, 07:33 PM I'd find out which neighbor called the po-po and tell him if he has a problem to have the pair to talk to me first. Then I'd go buy a shit load of green paint and paint my house camo. I wonder if they'd rather have a car in the driveway on jack-stands or a house that's painted camo.
I'm waiting to have the same problem at my house. The guy across the street is a real ass and thinks he's too good for the rest of us. I'll kick his cute little ass!
