i need to know the length from where the bell housing bolts up to the end of the factory adapter for a 205. how far back is the shifter from the front? what is the best year ford to get this tranny? ive got a hairbrained scheme if it will fit.
thanks

can't help with the adapter length, but do you know the NP435's that came with NP205 have a 31 spline output shaft.....2wd NP435's or NP435's that came with a Dana 21 have a 28 spline output.

Might help with your hairbrained scheme!

19 5/8" from bellhousing to end of adapter
15" from bellhousing to shifter
Make sure you either get a married set or a 4wd tranny.
My good 435 was 2wd and didn't bolt up since its a square bolt pattern instead of a trapizoid like pattern.

thanks guys. ive let this wait too long (getting married in a couple a weeks). i need a clarification though, is the 19 5/8 measurement including the bellhousing or without? these do have a detachable bell correct? if the 19 5/8 does include bell, how much shorter is it without the bell? thanks again
ill spill the beans once ive got it a little further and some pics

thanks man.
one last thing... how long does the input shaft extend in front of the mating surface and is there any taper to it? either larger or smaller?

I don't think there is any taper and I don't remember how far it extends in. Sorry
I just installed it when you made this post.

Just FWIW; I've heard that there are two different lengths of the adapters, one short for the Bronco and one longer for the F-Series pick-ups.
This is a rumor passed down thru the depths of time, I now pass it along to you all

any verifications to this rumor??

Also for my first newb tech question...(yes I searched that's why I brought up an old dead thread)

Is there anyway to have the output shaft of the NP435 sent out cut down and resplined to be shorter? As if you were going to do a double with a NP203 gearbox and EB Dana 20 tcase? My concern is the 8'' or so stock adapter that runs from the NP435 to the NP205. If it is at all possible to have that output shaft shorterned and resplined so you could even loose 4 inches, I can fab up another adapter for it no prob.

the two adaptors are within 3/4" of one another, and it's not F-series vs. Bronco, it's T-18 vs. NP435. One of the transmssions is 3/4" shorter than the other and in turn has an adaptor that is 3/4" longer to make the drivline lengths identical. Both adaptors work for both transmissions and a 205 no problem.

I think there is a market for an aftermarket 31 spline shaft that is the stock length but splined all the way back to the bearing retainer allowing you to custom cut it down to whatever length you need
