: New front group for Boxer
Crowdog 07-30-2002, 07:25 PM This is pathetic....
Mountain Bikers for Wilderness: http://www.mb4w.org/
We acknowledge that our pastime, mountain biking, is not allowed in Wilderness. However, we feel that setting aside special areas so they may remain in a pristine, non-impacted state is more important.
:barf:
Jon
i was under the impression that this bill would also exclude mountain bike activities ?
Mustard Dog 07-30-2002, 07:43 PM It does, this new group is saying that's ok, we'll just ride somewhere else. The mtn bike people were giving Boxers people hell at the Protest Rally. She must have realised that and came up with this sham to fake alot of people out:mad:
primergray 07-30-2002, 08:11 PM Are these people stupid or just ignorant?
I had to explain to my neighbors the "Rules" of the Wilderness Areas! They thought they could drive up into the Wilderness anytime they wanted and unload thier mountain bikes. What a rude awakening that was for them!! They are thinking about attending the Meeting on the 6th.
I'm still trying to convince them!!
YellowSub1962 07-30-2002, 11:37 PM THIS GROUP WAS FORMED TO MISLEAD THE PRESS!!
here's a snip from an email exchange I got - (I've removed names, because I've not asked them to publish them, though I don't think they would object, both were at the LA Rally)
This is obviously a group of Sierra Club supporters that needed someway
to counter act the intense mountain bike opposition to Boxer's Bill. If
you go to their web site as of 7/30 (Tues.) you'll see they have 111
signatures, 7 of those are of the so called reps.
http://www.mb4w.org/advocates.htm
Another key statement is this:
"In addition to mountain bikers statewide who have signed onto a letter
to Senator Barbara Boxer in support of S.2535, local International
Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) chapters in San Diego, Santa Barbara,
San Luis Obispo, Placer and Nevada counties support proposals to protect
potential Wilderness in their backyard."
IMBA has no "chapters," just clubs that affiliate with it. This group
obviously has close ties with Boxer.
This group is not a club, they are not an organization, they are a one
issue advocacy group that's main purpose is disinformation for the
press.
I've emailed Gary Sprung and Jim Hasenhauer on this press release to let
them know this group is portraying IMBA as supporting the wilderness
bill. I've also cc'ed Chuck Anderson the leader of the Santa Barbara
Club that's affiliated with IMBA and Andy Darragh and Daniel Greenstandt
who are leaders in the San Diego Club affiliated with IMBA.
The best thing to do is not help them by not posting anything about this
on any message boards unless someone else does and if they do make the
points I made in rebuttal postings.
Please spread the word amongst bikers (and everyone else) that this GROUP DOES NOT REPRESENT THE MOUNTAIN BIKE COMMUNITY!!!!

BONC & IMBA sold us out in Nevada County so they could make a deal with Boxer to save their own asses.
And IMBA is pro-wilderness.
How is that an ace in the hole?
Jon
YellowSub1962 08-01-2002, 11:16 PM Yes, please explain how the IMBA selling out to Boxer and swapping "areas containing mountain bike trails for areas NOT containing mountain bike trails" is an ace in the hole...

J-Bone 08-03-2002, 01:57 PM Don't confuse leadership of an organization with average mtb'er. You even said the "chapters" of IMBA is bogus

See what I mean?
Many ntb'ers are coming to the realization that Wilderness excludes them. Recently the bikers defeated some eco idiocy in Orange County

Then the "members" of IMBA and BONC need to wake their happy asses up and tell their leaders that they don't agree with their actions!

J-bone, I agree 100% with you, the Mountain bikers are our ace in the hole, I was hoping you would answer as you did...
NOW, the question I have is how do we get the LAZY Mountain Bikers off their political asses and get them to do something....starting with telling their Major representative organization that they pay money to to STOP SELLING THEM OUT...
