: FYI-Taurus 2sp electric fan specs
Nobody 07-30-2002, 07:34 PM This is what I believe is a taurus 2sp electric fan. I found it in a taurus station wagon about 6 months ago, but I can't guarantee that was the car it came from..... I know there are few different models.
Some thunderbirds also had similar fans.
I heard a few numbers as far as CFM go, but I can't confirm. I do know they will "blow" away the aftermarket competition in CFM and have great OEM reliability. Another great thing is they are not very thick.
There was an assy number on the outside of the shroud, and another part number on the inside. If I remember I'll call the dealer and try to get a new price and more info on which vehicles they came in.
If you need a fan....this a great cheap alternative to expensive aftermarket crap.

larryboy 07-30-2002, 07:55 PM i,m gonna give it a try on my willys. half price at p-n-p the 3rd and 4th.....we'll see if i can find one:D .

mudtruck44 07-30-2002, 08:56 PM That might be the same fan JR has on the Fat City Bronco. I think it could be the same one but he said his was a Lincoln 4.6. Could be the same part # or very similar. It really moves some air.

JR had a thread in the ford section awhile back. His is different than the one I have. I think the genral consensus was there are 3-4 different models.....with different CFM's.
$233 isn't a bad price compared to the aftermarket prices....I had initially bought a dual 12" flex-a-lite from summit for $199. I came to my senses and returned it and bought a Griffin radiator for $180 and a $20 junkyard fan! 100% better solution!
It shouldn't be necessary to buy new from ford....with some searching you should be able to turn up one of these gems in a yard for $20
larryboy 07-30-2002, 09:34 PM yeah the $233 isn't bad but i'm pretty sure i can come up with one at pnp. i called on the new price because in the link i posted he said he got his new for $99. that would be a screamin deal.
Old Scout 07-30-2002, 09:37 PM Stockton PnP has a ton of them. I built one into a stock scout shroud.

AthlonAJ 07-30-2002, 09:49 PM So did you figure out what model/year this is out of, the yards in my area won't let you look around or anything. Wouldn't a 100 amp draw even just at the startup toast those smaller wires?
Nobody 07-30-2002, 10:09 PM Those wires aren't so small!
According to the assy part number, my fan is a 1990. I think I found it in a 89 or 90 taurus station wagon, but there was a whole row of taurus' so it could have just ended up there.
They're supposed to be in the station wagons that are fully loaded with the biggest engines...I don't know which engine that is. I'm sure if you call the dealer with the part number they can tell you. Or the yards should be able to work with that number.
larryboy 07-31-2002, 04:07 PM also came in lincoln mark 8's.
old scout; that turned out nice, nice work:D .

Old Scout,
What year taruas did that come from, what engine do you run and what is the overall depth of the part...need to make something close to that....
Wilson 08-27-2002, 10:29 PM I picked one of these up at the pnp and put it in my truck. I wired it for the hi setting and in my opinion ddin't do a good job. My mount was questionable and may have allowed air to bypass the radiator, but my engine was running hotter than it had with the stock engine-driven fan. I bought a 17" fan at kragen and it works great. I'm going to put the other fan back in as a primary with the new one as a backup. I was going to try sealing the shroud with weatherstripping of some sort to get a good seal. Does the taurus fan push or pull?
Gozuki 08-27-2002, 10:50 PM This fan is only on the 3.8 liter v6...The 3.0 is not the "good" one...
GRMhick 08-28-2002, 12:33 AM Yeah, i have the same fan. It is actually offset on my 6cyl radiator (i have a 360 in the truck) and i never had a problem, even just idling the truck in 110° weather. worked great, except for starting up the truck. The darn thing had a hell of a time starting until i put a relay on the ignition system too. Orignally i had wired the fan just to the fuse box, and driving over the hill to watsonville one day i saw the box melting, and smoking  . BUt i left it, and drove it another week like that :flipoff2: . Just i am skeptical abou tthe 30 amp relay i used. Is there a better realay (maybe a 100 amp one?) and any ways to seperate this fan off so that it doesent draw too many amps from the battery to start the truck? Made me really want a dual battery setup when i was daily driving that truck. But then, lift goes on.
