Ok , I have been searching to see if anyone has a decent way to route the exhaust out the back or side of a TJ, All the info I have read has people just turning the exhaust to the ground after the muffler, is this the best way? I have read that there have been issues with people "cooking" the gas tank or the rear axle by cutting the exhaust.
I have a Gibson Cat Back exhaust, I did an 8.8 swap and now I have issues with the exhaust contacting the drive shaft at the yoke at full compression, The exhaust has also been rubbing the shock.
My question is if I cut and turn the pipe down after the muffler will I see and increase in fumes in the cab? My small sons wheel with me quite often so fumes would be bad. Does anyone have a solution to routing the pipe out the back or side?
Thanks Again For Help

I have a 4-link rear and just took it to a reputable muffler shop. I told them I wanted it out the back and to not hit anything. They did so and I have not had any problem out of it. I would see what your local shop says, see if they think they are up to the task.
And funny, I was just in Morganton last weekend picking up an axle.

Cool, Hope you got a deal. I was trying to keep from going the shop muffler shop route. I leaning toward cutting it turning it to the ground just in front of the rear tire.

I meant to add I used to have it turned down and didn't like it. It was when I was daily driving it but it was loud and did have some fumes. Not too much for me but I wouldn't want a kid of mine in it.
And yes I got a deal.:smokin:

I did the same thing, I just took it to a good exhaust shop told them what I wanted, It works good other then they had to use a 12" glasspack to clear the suspension. Its not the best muffler out there but it keeps it pretty quiet.

I know people get flamed pretty hard for taking there rig to a shop, But I guess when it comes to exhaust it sounds like that's the best way to go

Did my own exhaust and did a turn out on the passenger side by the rear corner. Used a chop saw and Magnaflow's kit that had hangers, U's, J's, 45's and Straight pipe. As it was stainless, I also got some Si-Bronze rod for welding it.
If you have a good local muffler shop it would be a toss-up, but the results were better than I had expected and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. If I tear it up, I still have leftover bends and tube, so the repairs will be cheap.
Good luck!
