I'm about to take the bed off my '86 M1008 CUCV to move the axle forward and install shackle flip and 63" springs. I'd like to figure out what to do as far as a fuel tank goes while the bed is off. I've searched the chevy forum and seen some guys fitting blazer and suburban tanks between the frame rails. I dont want to have a tank in the bed so I'm looking for a tank to fit between the frame rails.

Anyone have any suggestions on what tank i should use? and what year truck i should be looking for to get the tank from? Keep in mind it's a 6.2 diesel...I'm not sure whether that matters or not as to which tank I should use. Thanks in advance.

id go with a suburban tank as it will hold the most gas but if you are shortening the frame up maybe a blazer will be better since its smaller

I am shortening the frame...I'm moving the axle forward to have a shortbed wheelbase (117.5") and cutting the excess off in the back of the frame.

if you are using 63 inch springs, you could easily get away with a blazer tank. you will have to trim the insides of the frame rails to fit it, but thats easy.

x3 on the Blazer tank. It will fit w/minimal work. When I do mine, I'm going to run the filler/vent up tight to the inner bedside, w/protection of course. Seems to be the easiest way to go....

Mine's going on a crew cab dually, and I'm keeping the saddle tanks too. :D Long range... well... longER, anyway
