there are some Ready to runs out that are under 300. and it seems something new comes out every month.. I imagine here soon there will be a entry level at 200 mark or lower RTR..

but like dhoffroad said 450 and up is getting into the fun and more capable stuff..

Wow!! Some of the rigs you all have are amazing. I didn't know you could put that kind of detail into an RC vehicle. I'm pretty sure if I showed some of those pics to an unsuspecting person they would have no idea it was not real. Keep up the good work guys.:smokin:

hey jeep bruiser i like that xj body. any info. sweet rigs

Thanks, the XJ model is from Germany, Stefan has recreated the XJ in 10th scale perfectly

He sells it a couple of different ways, I got my chassis assembled but got the body as the kit and had to assemble/paint/detail etc.

Here is the latest rig I am working on

Nice YJ. For some reason the steering links just don't look proportioned. Dunno why.

You are absolutely correct. Reason being is that the lower link usually mounts on top of the knuckles, but since I wanted to have the steering stabilizer I had I have to run it on the bottom of the knuckles... So now you have a larger gap between the linkages. Compromise one thing to gain another...o well.

As long as any one has the proper coils around their shocks, you won't have any rebound/"down travel" when you pick up the car.

What do you mean you have tubing inside your shocks like the outside to squat the suspension? And what wt. oil/piston set up you using?

Hmm okay, I don't see why you'd want to limit any travel, in an RC crawler, unless of course you're a scaler or somethin.:smokin:

Deezul
10-07-2008, 10:28 AM
I did tubing in the shocks just to make it sit lower. Travel limit is negligable.

yup fuel tubing for rc..i used like .25" length if I remember right

Grind

Wait so you put the tubing over the actual shock shaft, underneath the piston to get it to sit lower? for example, like using it as a bump stop for down travel?
I'm sorry, I just can't grasp this idea, or picture it. Show me peekchures!:D

ya i agree mine is cut at 1/2 inch..
it doesnt limit down travel it limits ride height by preloading the suspension a bit you almost eliminate tq tw ..it also makes the rig very predictable

Wow, I just looked through the crawlers that you guys have built and I'm almost embarassed to show mine, but here goes.

It is basically a slightly modified E-Maxx. I bought it thinking that I wanted something fast, but I crashed so much I decided to get into crawling. It's nothing like the ones you guys run, but I have fum with it.

The mods:
Shocks, axle shafts, high torque servo, spools, 600 series motors, low gear set, Moab XL's, narrowed wheels, my version of a 3" longer than stock chassis, and a tube body that I haven't finished yet. I don't have any wheelin pics of it (pockets are to ful of batteries to cary a camera) so I took a few here at the house.

Does the silicone fuel tubing over the links work well with sliding over rocks? or you just protecting them?

OregonYO
11-16-2008, 09:08 AM
Its not actually silicon, its more like a teflon or hard plastic.
Works good but starts to wear off.
I think silicon would protect better but not slide well.

Grind
11-16-2008, 09:40 AM
Teflon or hard plastic fuel tubing? I thought fuel tubing was all silicone.

Because I bought a roll of this blue silicone fuel tubing on eBay, and besides taking my coils off and setting my ride height, I would like to cover my links with it too, but I don't think it'll slide that well.

Weird, wonder what the heck it is, and why the guy wrapped the links like that.
Looks like "Slick Sleeves".... Just teflon tubing that makes it a little easier to slide your links over rocks. I had some on my old AX-10 and they seemed to work pretty good.

thanks, but it aint nothing special. I never did that before, so I didn't know how to do it right. I did cut 2" right down the center, but I cut the scoop out 1st(didn't want that narrowed) I tried a couple of different glues with no luck, so I taped the 2 sides together and used a hot!! screw driver to blend the two sides together, then came back with some crappy body fill for models. I works but looks shitty IMO:shaking: wish I knew what works best for gluing those bodies together, would have turned out great. but hey, its a driver, not a shelfer right?:flipoff2:

Yeah I know.

I just got it a couple of weeks back. These coils are uncut. I've messed with the suspension a bit from how I got it and got a ton more travel and it seems to climb a bit better as well. Also got it lowered down from 3" to 2.5 @ the belly.

I'm contemplating going with an SWX chassis and getting a truck body. A bit lower CG and I think my girls would like it even more if it looked more familiar.

The look on his face was enough for me to take a stab at building him his first "Jeep". After researching the available parts (winches, Hi-Lifts, etc), I think I have to build one too.

Are those supposed to be IROK's? or those TSL SX tires? must be from RC4WD, wonder if they have 2.2's

If you're asking me then no, not RC4WD and they are made in Spain. Only 1.9 wheel size. They are scale tires so a 2.2 tire would be out.... 2.2 rigs just can't get too scale. Our club did a bulk order a few months back. Takes about 2-4 weeks to get them into the states. I'm not sure of any US vendors that sell them.

Good - Very scale tire, look good, XL's are perfect in size, compound is pretty good, and they are super light weight.

Bad - Wear fast(especially Ultra Soft version), at times a bit narrow.

I have the XL regular soft version. Lugs have worn a lot compared to a new set. They don't like to sit and spin on rocks very much as they will get warm and lugs start wearing down fast.

Trail Doctor Tires are found at, http://sdi4x4.com/

Hi,
I'm Jess, I've been involved w/ RC crawling for about a year now, I've been lurking around Pirate for a while, and finally decided to sign up (I generally hang around rccrawler.com and Socalrcrc.org, SoCal is my home club), so thought I'd join the fun over here too.
I'm running an Ax10 scorpion (the kit), stock tranny and axles
Top banana chassis
Novak 45t motor
Losi Claws
Traxxas Big Bore shocks

not a current pic, but the only topless one I have. since this I've moved the battery to the back, upgraded the servo, changed the shocks and a few other things
