: 2 tight for comfort?
Soundguy 08-26-2008, 08:32 AM I'm looking at a nice used toy hauler and after doing some measuring it looks like garage area length is the only issue I'm running into. My rig is 1" short of 13' long and the garage space is 13' 2 1/2" long from inside wall to the rear door face. If the trailer handles the weight and everything else is fine would I be crazy to try to pull that off? I assume I could just bolt some blocks to the floor to tell me when to stop and I should be fine but that still seems way to tight for me. Am I going to be able to slam on the brakes without taking out the interior wall of the living quarters with my rig? :D
toobad4u 08-26-2008, 09:01 AM That would be too tight for my liking. I would shoot for minimum6 inches front and back. Will they let you load your rig up in it before hand?
Your measurements don't leave a lot of room to help balance the load.

that would be my biggest issue with that. Now if somehow its dead on balanced on there...go for it, but it leaves no room to really grow or play. What happens if you ever decide to mount batteries and other stuff in the rear and throw off weight distribution some? it throws it off on the trailer as well...may not be much, but then again, it could be quiet a bit too.

I'm checking on loading it up and trying it out, I don't know how the seller will feel about that given the lack of space for error. :D
SolidAxleDurango 08-26-2008, 09:42 AM WAY to tight for my tastes. You will be repairing walls.

Good news, I just called the sales manager for Roadmaster that used to make the Campmaster line and after asking him a ton of questions about the used unit I'm looking at he asked me how much they wanted for it. He then told me to write up exactly what I want and send it to him and he'll have an 09 Predator built to my specs for $3K less than the guy wants for the used one. He didn't try to hide the fact that they're HURTING right now.
k5chevyblazer 08-26-2008, 05:21 PM thats way cool. most of them freak out when you tell them you are going to put a rig in them. I cant wait to get the Fuzion 393 I have been drooling over for the past year.

I just looked the 393 up, that's a LOT of trailer. 3 slide outs? I'm way too redneck to have something like that, I don't think my truck would handle something that size very well but it sure it purty.
The Jerk 08-26-2008, 09:52 PM im lost. is the unit your looking at have a seperate garage area?
I am picking up our new(used) hauler on thursday. I wanted to still have the bed of my truck. So we got the biggest triple axel bumper pull i could find. 16ft of garage(parking) space from rear door to first cabinet on the floor in the front. Can not wait to stuff the cruiser in there with rollers on the front for width issues.

Can't say for sure but yes, alot of the toyhaulers I've looked at lately (newer models) have a hard wall with a sealed door seperating the garage from the living quarters. Could be nice to help keep the smells/dirt out of the living area but I personally prefer the ones with the soft wall.
k5chevyblazer 08-27-2008, 03:58 PM The one I am looking/getting (Fuzion 393) has a 14' garage seperated by a sliding glass door. It is pretty, but it is the one the wife wants. It HAS to have a seperate garage. Cant wait to check your's out Jimmy.

See, something like that I could go for. I hate the ToyHaulers that have the fold-up furniture and crap.
Jodi, how wide is that? Do any haulers have an inside width and door jamb opening (you gotta watch the door jambs, they are often skinnier than the inside width) wider than 84 inches? I'd need one at least 12-1/2 feet by 7 feet. I'd be rubbing the walls with the tires when aired down.

The door on that one is 88 1/2" wide and the interior walls are 90" wide, it's only 79 3/4" between the wheel wells but they can built them to drive over. They can also build the garage as long as you want, I think they top out around 21' long on a tandem axle if you have a dining area slide out like that one has.

do you have any idea of dry weight for that thing??
Soundguy 08-28-2008, 07:54 AM do you have any idea of dry weight for that thing??
Not exactly but I believe it's somewhere in the 6,500lb range, the owner gave me a model number of CARG 8536-14TA but the company says there's supposed to be something after the TA to tell me what the tandem Axles are rated at. 8 stands for 8' wide, 5 stands for 5th wheel, 36 is the overall length and 14 is the garage length but none of those are exact like the garage not being 14' long. The company says it should have no less than 5200lb axles, possibly 7000lb axles.
Soundguy 08-28-2008, 08:02 AM He's got a bunch more pictures here

The owner Mitch was really nice but I can tell you that if you shop around you can find the same model brand new for the same as his asking price.
There's a very similar blue 09 model for sale in Mississippi I saw pop up a few times while searching for the same price.
