Ok I am getting a 1971 1210 4door 2wd longbed truck it has a 4 speed and a 392 ih motor

I also have a 1986 k5 that will not pass smog and I need a tow rig so I would like to put the 4x4 gm axles under the truck (no problem) but the k5 is an AT so I am wondering what the bolt pattern on the 392 is will it bolt up to a 700r4 or do i need to also swap in the 350 out of the blazer?
and if it will work where can i find a flex plate that will work for the motor?

To get the 392 to the 700r you'll need an adapter like this:

First off, smog laws... HA!
Why the heck would you not just leave the 1210 as is? That 392 will tow better and last WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY longer than a 350. it would not be worth the money to put the 700r4 behind the SV.

Do you not know how to drive a stick or what?

i would love to leave the 392 in it but it is tired and has never been rebuilt and it is only 2 wheel drive. and i have a 400 horse 4 bolt main 350. that i am going to put tbi on for now once I get the money for an adapter and or a t case to go behind the stock trans and a rebuild on the 392 i might put them back in also the other reason I am thinking of the 350 is to get a few more miles to the gallon since right now the 392 gets 8 on a good day
that and I would like to upgrade to disks up front

but if someone has a tcase and a front axle (8 luge disc not drum) I might just trade the blazer for them

IMHO you should sell the blazer to someone in one of the 49 non-communist states and pick up some free/$50~ 3/4 ton or better axles and a divorced 205 from an old IH, Ford, or dodge truck for $25. Then put tbi on the 392. FYI my 345 gets 19.6mpg with 3.31 gears and tbi that I did for free following bill's stuff on the BB and scrounging parts.

If you are only getting 8, you must have 4.10's and/or a pig rich carb.

yep 4.10s
its a 3/4 ton sitting on one tone springs and axles or atleast thats what i am told my grandpa ordered it in 71.

I was thinking that if I pulled the motor trans I could put them in my fj40 since i have the adaptor to go from the 2wd trany thats in the IH to my toyota tcase (just a thought but dont think that the fj will hold up to the power of the 392)
