Ok, I have two Zuks, each one has a different problem.

On one, I can start it and drive it. No prob right? Well if I drive it until the engine reaches normal operating temp and then shut it off, I have to wait until the engine cools down for it to start again. What gives?

On the other sammie, I started it the other day and the starter stayed engaged even though the key was in the acc slot. I shut it off and tried it again, samething happened. Third time is a charm right? This time same thing happened and then smoke came pouring out of the ignition switch. I pulled the dash panel and yes the switch is black now. What happened?

as for the first problem, the starter needs to be rebuilt or replaced, the aramature or something inside is probably burnt...getting hot and won't turn....its a sign of a dying starter.

as for the stuck starter, the same thing happened to my 72 Corola and it was the ignition switch....just change the little (suposed to be white box) behind the key and the problem should go away.....
if you want to check it before you spend any money, you can always hot wire your Samurai at the switch....just cut the wires and cross some till you gett the engine going, its very easy. thats how I still drive the Corola to this day.....hope this helps

when you change the little white box, don't do like me and turn the slot in the box with a screwdriver.

my bro drove his samurai like that for a while and fried the freshly rebuilt starter because the slot in the box will keep turning, making the starter click....cooked the starter right up, couldn't even get the thing rebuilt.
