: Disassembly Q - Mossberg 500 vs Mossberg 835

I have a question for anybody familiar with both shotguns.

I was cleaning them up last weekend in preparation for an upcomming shoot. I am able to tear down the 500 to the receiver without issue, but I can't seem to get the trigger guard/assembly out of the 835 for some reason. Usually I just clean the barrels, swab out what I can reach in the chambers, and oil/wipe them down, but I wanted to give them both a good cleaning.

The 835 is a Ducks Unlimited guide gun that I won about ten years ago. I'll carry it through the woods and fields all day long, but I'm a little hesitant to go prying on it too much. Maybe I'm just being too gentle with it?

Is there a difference between the two mechanically?

You should be able to push the pin out and just pull it out.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe I was just being to gentle with it. I have the day off today. I might give it another go.

If it is 10 years old and never been apart, I would guess you need to use some oil on it, and be a little less gentle.

Got it oiled up. I've never removed the trigger assembly when cleaning my shotguns. Now that I've learned a bit more, I see that I should have been removing them regularly. :( On this one, it looks like the stock is what is preventing it from popping out. I'm going to oil it up a couple more times over the next few days, and see what happens. I might also try putting it in a room with a de-humidifier running with the hope that may cause the stock to shrink a little.

The front of the trigger assembly need to come out first. There should be 2 ears on the rear of the assembly that slide into the stock and hold the assembly into place.

Don't feel bad, I tore my 10/22 trigger pack apart because the trigger was feelin' a bit "gummy".....1/2 way through, I realized I had NEVER disassembled it in 15 years...:homer:

The sorry part is I remove the barrels and run a cleaning rod through them after every outing. I always oil them inside and out to prevent rust. Never thought about the trigger assembly.

909K5 - Are you saying front as in towards the barrel? On my 500 the rear (towards the stock) comes out first.

I'll take mine apart tonight and take pictures
