Just want to know what you guys think. I've got a buddy looking at a 79 CJ5 that has a really straigt, rust-free body. Original straight 6 (rebuilt 6,000 miles ago), soft top and soft doors. Only thing he sees wrond is that, when in reverse, it sometimes jumps out of gear. Only in reverse. Guy wants $2900. What do you all think about the price, and the transmission issue.

You didn't say which transmission it has 3 spd T-150 or 4 spd T-18. If it's the T-150 I'd say $2900 is on the high side.
What other options does it have or is it pretty much a stocker?

I find rust free hard to believe in LA. I lived in LA for 4 years and it seemed everything rusted. I would look for bondo or some metal grafts.

Depends on what you want todo with it.

for a wheeler, the 79 has a d20 tcase (high low range) and a D20, so you will need 1 piece axles
