: Help! How do I get the pinion out of my d30 front??

Help me out guys the pinion bearings in my 99 tj are shot!! How do I get to them? Any info will help... Thanks...

1. Remove unit hubs from knuckles and slide axle shafts out of housing
2. Remove front drive shaft
3. Remove pinion nut
4. Remove front diff cover
5. Remove carrier
6. With a hammer knock pinion out of housing (from the yoke side)

Putting it back together properly is up to you, not going to try and explain that one...

Thanks, what I really needed to know it was "Remove unit hubs from knuckles and slide axle shafts out of housing."

I think you might want someone that knows more about this I am not trying to be a smart ass but to do this the correct way takes knowledge

I've done lots of rear end gears but not many fronts I just wasn't sure if I needed to pull the whole nuckle or just the hub to get the axles out..

Here is a link to installing a locker in a dana 30, It walks you though pulling the axles and carrier out, First one that came up when I googled it

leave the nut on pinion to protect the threads from the hammer or your buying gears too.

Then you won't have a problem. Just get the axle fully dissasembled and get it done. hypoids are hypoids. Get a chilton's if you have further questions. To get the axles out, you gotta remove the unit bearing hubs as well.
