So I bought my girlfriend an 89 XJ listed below. This weekend she was going to get to drive it for the first time. But when I drove it out to the off road park today, it gradually started running worse and worse. With in the 5 mile trip it had fallen on its face, and started running at between 3000 RPM and 4000 RPM. there was a huge crowd of Blue smoke billowing out of the exhaust like a freight train. I am very familiar with this jeep being that I built it and owned it about a year ago. Before I sold it to a friend, which I just bought it back from. It has never done this, nore have I seen one do it for that fact. I'm no renix guru but I have owned a few and worked on a dozen or so but this is just plain weird.

If someone could help I would appreciate it. She really wants to wheel her own jeep this weekend.


PROBLEM:

Super high idle
Very rich fuel/air mixture
When in gear it’s an absolute dog and shutters, before dyeing.
Hard start, must hold pedal to the floor.

Thats a mess. I have a renix XJ, and mine never did all that at once. However, it has had all of those symptoms seperately. Any leaks you know of that might cause the high idle? Check the IAC? And maaaaybe, its a long shot, but what about the CPS? Thats at least a starting point, hope that helps.
