Bah, I know this is noobish, but I couldn't find an answer with the search feature, and I found conflicting answers from google...

But could someone tell me if the rev limiter from the 5VZ (I have a 1997 model from a 4Runner 5 speed, if it makes any difference) is fuel-cut or ignition cut?

Basically, I'm looking to raise my rev limit, and trying to go about it in a very street legal way.

Would anyone by chance have the contact info for URD? I went to their site, and there was no e-mail address or phone number that I could find...

Sweet.

I managed to get ahold of them. Great bunch they are. I had an answer within a couple hours.

If anyone needs to know for future reference, the rev limiter for the 5VZ-FE is fuel-cut based, not ignition-cut based.

I've thus began research on bypassing it- I just wasn't sure how to bypass an ignition cut system without a stand alone, and didn't want to go about the wrong and more expensive way to do it. I'll end up necroing this thread down the road with my findings, in case someone should be interested.

just since no one else asked... why do you want to bypass it???

^^^LOL, what he said.

My application doesn't require the low-end torque that the engine is famous for. I plan on camming it to broaden the power band so the engine builds power to 6,000RPM. I may end up supercharging it as well, depending on how satisfied I am with the results. :D

Its a ignition cut rev limiter system,

Are you building it to spin high RPM's or just sticking cams in it?

I would at least go through it and have some ARP rod bolt installed on the rods, have a tighter set of valve springs installed in the heads, do some porting, balance it, and it goes on and on:D

Is it going in a 2WD truck?
