Hello list:
I have the new walker evans 17" beadlocked wheels and the 37" COPPER STT. The problem is that while making the cut for the 37" it seem that it will touch on the front part of the wheel well.
That part is structural for the tub abd i would like to leave it that way.
Normally:
Do you have to stretch the Yj to be able to fit 37" WITHOUT cutting the front part of the wheel well???
I have made a cut way big to the back but still I am not sure if I will need a stretch.
The problem with stretching is that it will need a new engineering project being done and lots of paperwork and $$$. If I have to do it I will go ahead but I would like to wait till change my front axle too and cut down paperwork and expenses by fitting both mods on the same engineering report.
Thanks
Ed

yes thats pretty much the situation. you can cut the leading edge but you will have to get creative with replacing sheetmetal as you will cut into the interior of the tub. with tires 35" and up you are forced to relocate the rear axle in order to recenter the tire in the wheelwell. this is only a factor if you have a working suspension and will not apply to those lifted to a point where there is no suspension movement anyways.

Thanks Fratis

I have fitted 42 in a YJ but by stretching the wheelbase to 103. Now with the contrstaint of fitting the 37 ON THE OEM wheelbase I was confused.
It actually fitted by cutting it as much as the front part permitted.
My rig has a four link rear suspension which actually leans back the axle as it goes up so it helped a little.
Thanks

I'm not sure what they did to the back, but JP magazine did a write-up on a no-lift YJ on 40s. I only saw the part where they did the front fenders though.

Not to hijack but have actual measurements of the stt's? I just ordered the same set of tires and was curious.

Yes, pics are of my CJ but they are close to a YJ.
Tires are 38.5" mudders, measuring 36.5" on full size axles with a SOA.
I've very happy with how they fill out the wheel wells.
Front 3.5~4" stretch, back is 2"
- I've sinced trimmed the back of the rear wheel well about 1" and can get the tire higher into the wheel well. I like have the stock body with flex, the stretch is not that hard.

The problem here in Spain is that we have to pass inspections for each and every component of the cars. If they find a new painted area, like a transfer case support, they look closely to it as our laws include specifically frame alterations, drivetrain supports, etc.

The only choice is to make an engineer sheet of all the mods (even the snorkel if it has) and pass an homologation study. Is like autorize a whole new vehicle. Mine's is, and every time I take the frog for inspections they measure wheelbase, weight and width for example. God, they even look if the washer bottle has run out of water.

Thats why he's so concerned 'bout the wheelbase.
