: Border Patrol Agents?
projectfreedom 08-31-2008, 10:58 AM I am in the hiring process with Border Patrol, and was wondering if anyone on here is already an agent. I am from deep south Texas, but considering taking a post in your area. I know there are Tuscon and Yuma Sectors. I am not sure where I would get sent, but wanted to try and get some info on the area as far as a good place to live and the good wheeling spots.

From living in Tucson and Phoenix. There is GREAT wheeling there.
A little info about the Tucson area. I sure you won't be bored with nothing to do. Winters are fantastic in AZ. :smokin:

There are a lot of places to 4-wheel, ones I know of are mosrly around PHoenix, but I'm sure ther are more down south.
bigmookied 08-31-2008, 10:38 PM there is a forum on wheeling arizona dedicated to Tucson and surrounding areas. Lots of stuff to do down there.

That was some good reading, thanks. How are the people up there, are they pretty friendly? Just trying to get a feel for the area before I make the jump.
b-dogg 09-02-2008, 06:54 AM I like Tucson for wheeling cause it seems like your not too far from any of the trails in southern AZ and your still close enough to hit up the Phoenix trails in a weekend. If your going border patrol I know they have quad/atv devision running in Douglas. Douglas is a shit hole but Sierra vista isn't that bad for a small big town and its about a 30-45min drive. Getting paid to chase people down on quads would be the chit.:flipoff2:

Actually, MOST wheelers there are cool. A lot of great people on the trails. I just met a few Jeep owners that were snotty, don't know why. They must have felt intimidated by the Scout. :D
Since you have a K5, you should check out a trail before you attempt some of the hardest trails. I know I was too wide to run Anaconda up on Table Mesa that is just North of Phoenix. There is trails there I wouldn't attempt to run a bodied vehicle on unless you enjoy retrieving your body parts. The wheeling there is second to none. Plenty of trails CLOSE to Phoenix and Tucson. I did prefer to live in Tucson to Phoenix any day. Tucson is nice. :)
azhayseed 09-02-2008, 10:55 PM Commuting in Phoenix is a bitch, you might as well be in Los Angeles. Left Phx 10 yrs ago and moved to Tucson and have never regretted it, culture shock was an issue because it feels like us white boys are the minority here and you have to assume that anyone hispanic does'nt speak english. Also just about as many border patrol personell as there are hispanics!
Yuma is really tough to live there in the summer It's too damn hot! but they got some really nice sand dunes to play in very close by.
Tucson has plenty of trails around fairly close by , I feel some of the best crawlin in the country if your into rocks.
The wheeling guy's around here are a great bunch of guy's.

Thanks for the info. I don't think that Phoenix is an option. I think it is too far north to have any agents stationed up there. I was already looking at some houses around Sierra Vista and other southern towns.

I'm from yuma, and i think its better than tucson, but just personal preference. Its great down there alot of places to explore, and you can't beat the dunes. Yuma is in the center of great places to visit, pretty much three hours from everywhere. yuma4wheelers.com is pretty much the only club out there and the usually hold runs every month. Yuma is worth checking out
I lived in Yuma in the late 90s and the wheeling was good, plenty of places to go wheel, bike, or camp. And your kinda central so you can go to Cali or Phoenix for other things that are offered in bigger cities. If I had to live in Yuma again I wouldnt mind it at all.
dukduk 09-13-2008, 05:07 AM check out this forum: http://forums.officer.com/forums/
Antman 09-19-2008, 10:12 AM Casa Grande is a good place to live. Not too big and between Phoenix and Tucson and has lots of BP there. Close to all the wheeling.:D

Come to Yuma. i own an Offroad shop here and there are hundreds of trails from mild to wild. Plus your only 15 to 30 minutes to Buttercup/gordens well and Glamis sand dunes. I like crawling my Jeep but i have alot of fun at the Dunes. I do alot of upgrades for the USBP trucks and its really cool to get to drive these trucks. i cant tell you what we put on them but they ride good when there running across the desert.

dirtyboots 01-03-2010, 07:27 PM Tucson or Yuma are great towns these days. Southern AZ is top notch wheeling everywhere. You guys won't be dissapointed no matter were you get stationed.

Well welcome to Texas bro. I ended up being stationed in Kingsville, Texas. There is plenty of wheeling up in that area. You have Big Bend National Park right there. You are only a few hours from New Mexico also. The area is kind of baron out there, and it will get very hot. Look up Texas4x4.org when you get to Texas. You're gonna be there just when it starts to get cold, and finish out the very hot season. PM if you have any questions on the academy or anything else.
boost_aholic97 09-01-2010, 10:48 AM if you do come down to fort hancock, hit me up. i currently live in El Paso, BUT my heart is in NM.there are a few trails real close to El Paso, but if you want to drive 30 min further we can hit the Las Cruces Trails. those are fun and they go form mild(stock toyota can make through) to extreme!
shoot me a PM sometime.
