For my D-44 front I cut the long side of a Chevy housing 4". That made the spring perches line up almost perfect and the long side shaft out of a mid-80's Wagoneer fits like it was made to go there. I think my overall width is like 65" with the 8-lug outers <IMG SRC="smilies/grinpimp.gif" border="0">
Hope this helps!
Ryan,
A Chevy D44 has the spring perches at 31.5" and your Cruiser has them around 27" so you need to cut about 4.5" off the long side.
8 lug 44s are 69"
6 lug 44s are 67"
Looks like you will have a 62.5" front end if you only cut down the long side. If you want a narrower axle, then you can cut down the short side as well.

How wide were you wanting to be?
Did you want to use a "stock" replacement axle for the side you shorten?
etc.
E-mail me and I'll send you the "recipe".
