I am putting a 97 V6 in an old scout and was wondering if anybody knows about putting a one wire alternator on it. I have a 2001 PCM and harness for the motor and just want to get rid of any circuits that arent required to make the motor run. I didnt get an alternator when I got the motor. thanks for any help

JasonWhy not just use an alternator for that motor? Any parts store should have one and sense you have the harness it should plug right up. Or add the wires you need.

I would go with an OEM alternator for easier wiring hook-up and correct amp's. This would also be a good time to contact www.mean-green.com/ - 10k and see if they have a upgraded alternator for you application, bigger is better when it comes to powering a winch or other electronics.

the guy from Jims performance suggested that I just put a one wire to eliminate the computer controlled alternator. I saw that they have late style serpentine belt alts for sale with an offset or straight but I am unsure if what I need other than buying them and seeing which one fits. thanks for any help
