: Dana 60s upgrade q's?

I know, I am trying to search but I can't find all the answers. Maybe you can point me to a thread?

MY plan is to consider using the two Dana 60's I got out of my 79 F250 for my 4Runner.

I will have someone retube my front end and move the third to the passenger side. During the retube I will have the width set to 63". I will have the gears set up and then I will just assemble the rest with existing stock components. Not sure if I should consider upgrading the shafts or knuckles because of $$, I am not sure how much that would cost or if it would be worth it.

I want to run the full float rear but I want to upgrade it to 35 spline axles. I was told that this full float rear outer is not big enough to fit the 35 1.5" axle. I wanted to just have the rear cut down to 63", have the gears set up, and then I would install the disk brakes and assemble the rest.

I have been searching and have not found exactly what I am looking for, any thoughts or links that you can point me to?

Thanks for your help!

Oh, I am going to install these 60's because I plan to run 38's and I have an LT1 with no where to go (and it MIGHT end up in the runner, we'll see)

Sounds like you've got it figured out pretty well.

Don't worry about the knuckles. You have to replace the inner shafts because they neck down stock and cannot be cut down. You are correct about the rear. Searcch for "spindle" and "bore" and some results should pop up about the rear.

Thank you, drive through:flipoff2:

About the knuckles, COOL!

I know that the inners will have to go, just did not know if I should consider upgrading the outers and or knuckles.

Thanks for the "search" tips, I will use them now.

Go for a 14 bolt, dually or C&C...63"s wide. Do a search for posts by high5 in the Jeep section. Cheap, right width, and already has beefy shafts

I second that if you don't want to use the 60 rear you already have. It would be cheaper to use the 14 bolt.

Alright, thanks for the help.

I guess I will have to look into the 14 bolt then, not sure if the purchase price of the 14 bolt plus all the goodies will be as cost effective as just upgrading what I got, but I will search and figure it out.
