I now have two NP242s that are stuck in 4lo!!
WTF!! It all started about 6 months ago..
Pulled my 242 to replace chain and output bearings. On this one also did the shift fork bushings for the gear/fork closest to the REAR output. I will say here I didnt take apart the shift shaft/arm assembly. Reassembled, installed, started up in what felt like neutral then when I moved the lever (the wrong way? duh!) it went into lo range and wouldnt come out.. With the t case in 4lo and the linkage/shifter in 4lo plus a hair forward 1/8" it wouldnt go into the 2hi position!!
Long story shorter I screwed around with everything i could think of I replaced with another 242 that I know worked fine. Shift shaft was not touched before start up! Damn thing did same shit!! Now im getting kinda ticked!

Some bodys gotta have an answer!! Please help! Need to go wheelin!

I think the 4 speed Atlas would fix your problem. :D

Okay follow this procedure:

Put jeep on hill

Apply brake

Put in neutral

Shut off engine

Let roll back down hill for 5-10 feet or so SLOWLY

Push the fawker down!

Put in park

Start it up

Drive off hill

Works for me when my T-case fawks up!

Are you sure that your shift linkage isn't just flexing so much that it won't shift the tcase?

Disclaimer: this post is in NON-Hardcore NOW, so no more flaming!

Are your sure that all the shift linkage is properly set up and tight. If a bolt is loose, you can get problems. It happened to me once.
