Here's what I came up with. Does it look strong enough? more triangluation?

My first thought is "that looks kinda rough". But I know that mounting the steering column without spending a bunch of money is harder than you would think. I think what you have is adequate but ugly. But I don't have a cheap alternative either.
On my rig, I took a 3/4" piece of tubing and had bushings made so it would fit into a 1 1/2" tube. I welded the 1 1/2" tub through the dash bar and ran the 3/4" tube through it. It worked just fine but the bushings were a PITA to find someone that would make them.

another alternative is go to the local bearing store or possibly the local surplus store and buy bronze oillite bushings you can get them with a shoulder. You most likely want 3/4" ID then go to the local metal supply store and buy a short chunk of DOM with the correct ID for the bushing, needs to be a little tight. Grab some 3/4 cold rolled round stock. You can salvage junkyard ujoints and the stock ones or buy new ones...

Thats how I did mine, going strong for 3 years and no lathe needed.

I just used the stock support system and column. I'd say what you have will hold up though.

Remember this is the Bronco bastard child build:D I'm not overly happy with the upper mount, although it will be covered up by the dash I'll still know it's there. I'll play around Friday and see what else I can come up with. Living in Farmington has it's draw backs, I can't just run to the metal store and buy some DOM because there's no such store out here in the sticks.

I think if you weld the top support all the way accross and the lower arond the tube, youll be good. With 2 support points youll be hard pressed to move the wheel side to side.

I'm using 3/4 tubing and over-sized steering heims. I got everything except the 3/4 to Toyota spline u-joint (Poly Perf) from Speedway Motors.

Funny thing is, I sold an '83 OEM tilt column and push & pull steering box for more than what I paid for all the new steering components. Plus, it was all stuff that was thrown in when I bought a set of '83 axles.

I used a universal steering shaft from a buggy shop. Cut to the lenth you need and run thru a bushing on the dash bar. not as clean as some but it works fine

Is your steering column a little close to the center? Or, is this defined by the cutout in your dash for where an EB column mounts

How will you brace the windshield down tube to the frame if your steering column is directly under that brace.

finish the welds and it looks stronger than mine.

Mine has held up fine for a year or so.

Good points.. I looked at mine and the steering column was all the way to one side of the window down bar.

And for strength I did go straight down from the window bar to the frame. Since you haven't welded it up that might be worth looking at. I sat in my rig with the seats just sitting there to figure out where my steering went and
still gave me room.

I agree with Wes that what you have looks strong enough when finished up.

Keep the updates coming.

I'm doing kinda the same but using Jeep shackel bushings. They fit in the 11/2 inch 120 wall tube and a 3/4 tube fits through.
