: 2005 1500HD vs 2500
In the open 09-04-2008, 04:14 PM 05 Chevy 1500HD with the 6.0/auto, 2wd crew LB, 60K on it.
What the difference between this truck and a 2500? I just can't find anything on the difference in them.
About to get the family deal on it so price is no deciding factor.
WhatsStuckK5 09-04-2008, 04:30 PM no difference. same thing, different name. GM does some stupid marketing shit. i think slightly beefier frame than a half ton, but not taller, like the 2500hds, 6.0/80e/9.5sf rear.

This one has a loooong bed. I supose it will pull better with the longer wheel base.
The 1500hd only came in a short bed crew cab. The 2500 or 2500ld came in other configs. They both run 6.0, 4l80e, and I BELIEVE 14b sf, with the ff going in the HD frames....
What I have read is the 1500hd is chevy's answer to the super crew... they didnt have a 1500 crew cab designed yet, so they changed the badges to 1500hd and sold it as a heavy half.....
tlott 09-05-2008, 06:08 AM I have an 03 1500HD (picked it up a few months ago with 55k on it). Got a great deal and am extremely happy with it. Tows great, lots of power (mine has the 4.10 gears - unlike the 2500HDs w/ the 6.0, these have a 3.something gear option and not just 4.10s). Like others said, it only comes in an SB (though not the super short bed).
stomp-a-jeep 09-05-2008, 07:20 AM 1500hd has the 14 bolt semi floater and 2500hd has the full floater. frame is a little diffferent. I dont know for sure but I bet the gvw is heavyer on the 2500hd
the 1500hd and the 2500 non hd are the same truck iirc.

Actually, the 1500HD had 3.73's optional right out of the gate while the 2500HD 6.0's were 4.10 ONLY for the first few years.
One thing I noticed was the 1500HD's had a smaller exhaust pipe & some guys "claim" they don't feel as strong as the 2500HD's.
1500HD & 2500 are essentially the same truck. You have to go to 2500HD to get the bigger rearend.

yeah thats what i was saying, I just wrote it in a confusing way.
the 4.10 gears in the 1500hd make for a 2,000-3,000# tow rating difference.
In the open 09-05-2008, 12:25 PM Thanks for the info. Sounds like I just need to figure out the gear ratio so I know the correct Tow rating.
Only thing is everyone says that the bed is short but this one looks like an 8footer. Mabey it is like 6.5 or something. When I can, I will measure it. It might be a morphidite.

GT4= 3.73 RATIO
GT5= AXLE REAR, 4.10 RATIO
G80= Rear Gov locker
I bet its 3.73 most were.
And if its a 1500HD is a 6.5ft bed.
