i just need a decent stick. nothing fancy as i will just be welding frame parts not making a living out of it. home depot seems to have a decent price on their LE 225 for $225. harbor freight is about the same.

where do you guys buy from?

thanks- russel

Got mine form the link above.
They dropship from Hobart/Miller, free shipping saves ya about 90 bucks or so (i think thats what it was) but they send it on the slow boat from china.
Took 3 weeks due to BO in my case.

They were one of the best deals I could find.
I'm sure someone will find a better one to make me cry. :flipoff2:

Good luck.

My .02 is to get a small wire feed machine, such as a hobart handler, and run flux core wire. This is by far the simplest set up.

or

Compare their prices. Sometimes one or the other will have a sale...

that lincoln at home depot that your talking about is a good welder. easy to operate. plug it in, get your amps set and go. you can even crank it up to 225 and use to cut. aint pretty but it will cut.

Spend the extra coin and get an ac/dc machine. I bought my mig from cyberweld.com ... got it about a week later.

I'll second that on cyberweld.com, free shipping and the lowest prices. I saved about $300 on a plasma cutter over another online store. Stay away from Harbor Freight prison-camp tools. Century welders are just ok but for the money the Hobart stuff will be more reliable.

I've heard good things about Welders Direct as well.

Personally, I bought mine directly from the Miller plant here in town - they are manufactured just down the road. It DID help to know the Miller sales staff tho too....is under $700 for a new Miller 185 a good price?? ;-)

I would likewise lean towards a MIG. I used a stick for many years, and still keep it for BIG jobs, but the versatility of the MIG is great. Sheet to frame work, just flick the dial, and great penetration and weld quality. It IS a bigger up-front investment, but a quality welder will last you almost forever.

If I was you I would get it locally. Get it at the shop closest to you house that sells all your supplies. That way when you go back to get gas and wire and you say, HEY ROB! Working grreeeat! Rather than...no I bought mine on the internet.

They seem to treat you better the first way.
