Is anyone currently running this setup in their rig? the slave cylinder is most likely going out on my 89 so I figured id try this out if its worth it. the price with a centerforce dual friction clutch is around $575 dollars, give or take, for all new parts(flywheel, slave cylinder, starter, ect.) and its only about $100 or so cheaper with a stock replacement 4.0 clutch kit. If it doesn't hold/perform that much better than the stock 2.9 setup than im just going to replace the slave cylinder and clutch for the 2.9 and run that till its not a dd anymore or it moves to toy status. any imput will be greatly appreciated.

im runnign it and killed my fm146 with it, lots more grab. i ran all junkyard pasrts because i got them from a ranger that was like new, cost me $70 for clutch, presure plate, flywheel and starter. then after the fm146 blew the tail shaft pulling out from a red light i tossed in a m50d for another $45.
one thing you need to do is grab a 4.0 block plate or grind out the 2.9's starter hole for the 4.0 starter to fit.
heres the image from the site, 4.0 clutch vs the 2.8 and 2.9's

I have the 4.0 clutch in mine also. Highly recommend it. The little 8-7/8" clutches suck big donkey nuts.
I used a LUK stock-replacement 4.0L clutch & flywheel, and starter for a '94 application (slave should be for your existing trans).
As said, you'll have to open up the hole in the block plate about 2mm or so for the 4.0L starter motor to fit, and the wiring for the starter needs to be changed around slightly (battery cable has to go straight to the starter solenoid on the motor itself, then the existing relay on the fender is used to engage it).

this is one part where alot of guys are having issues including me, if you jumper the selinoid on the starter and use the stock one on the fender the 4.0 starter seems to keep running for about 1 second after you let off the key, im going to bypass my fender selinoid and use the one on the starter to see if it helps with this, but i gotta wait till i get the new bushings for my m50d shifter

No, that happens because you've got the power cable and the solenoid control input jumpered together.
You need to wire it exactly like here:

fwiw I burned up a stock 4.0 clutch behind my 4.0 about every year or so. I was even real nice to em an everything... I now run the centerforce dual friction behind the 4.0 :D

I've got this setup. 4.0 clutch seems to grab better. Iv also got the starter solenoid jumped so the stupid thing stays running for a second after the engine fires. I dont see any reason to put a stock 2.9 clutch back in when there is a way better bolt in replacement. I'd say to hell with the centerforce bs, just run a stock replacement the 2.9 isnt gona make anything slip.
Only thing i dont like is how the 4.0 starter sounds. The 2.9 starter had that old school ford sound :D
