You're going to have to be more specific on what you mean buy "old Jeep 3 spd." I would assume you mean a T-90, but could also be a T-84, T-86, T-14, T-15 or T-150. Any of those could be considered Old Jeep 3 spds. Also, what is this wierd engine and what are you looking to do?

The motor is a 62' buick 215ci v-8, I believe the t-98 is what I'm looking for. As far as what 3spd is in it now, no clue.

Well if you've got a buick engine then I'd guess that your best bet would be an sm420 but you may have to get a different bellhousing. Sorry I couldn't help ya out more but it was kinda a vague question. You might try the old jeep tech section over on off-road.com I think they have descriptions and maybe pics of the old jeep trannies.

Does the 215 use the regular BOP pattern bellhousing? If so, that won't be a problem. If not then yeah you had probably better adapt what you got. I saw your other post in Gen 4x4, this is going in a '46 CJ-2A correct? It would have had a T-90 stock. That's probably what's in there now. How is it mated to the bellhousing now? Does it use an adapter plate? Is it using the shoft CJ input shaft or the longer wagon shaft? I'm afraid your going to have to tear into it to find out what you have now. There are ways to do it using your existing bellhousing.
Novak (http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ford_to_gm.htm) has some good tips on how to adapt a Ford transmission to a GM engines. These tips would also apply to a FSJ T-18 with a Ford input shaft. You can also take a look at how I adapted my T-98/T-18 to my 2.3L here. (http://www.jeeptech.com/oliver/Modifications/Transmission6.htm) The FSJ T-18 with Ford input shaft is the trans you want to use. If your bellhousing dimentions are similar to later GM belhousings, it will adapt to both your engine and transfer case without the use of any expensive adapter. If it's different, then you might have to do something custom like I did. Good luck!
