Ok a few basic Q's. I'm gonna put elockers in the ftoy and have the front HP one on the way so now i need one for the rear. Will an elocker from a 2000 4runner fit our housings? I found this when searching http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5331552#post5331552
But I don't know if the 3rds changed by that year or not. :homer:
thx

I'm pretty sure all e-lockers are the same. You'll just have to modify your housing (same as for the front). In the 4Runner and Truck forum, 'Pat' built that wider front housing, and went into good detail on how to modify a regular 8" housing to run an ELocker.
I think you can also run a Taco/Tundra 3rd in an "8'" housing, but you need to redrill/tap 4 or 6 of the stud holes, and you need to clearance the diff cover for the bearing cap truss. (but that's obviously not comp-legal). Theoretically, you could run an 8" third (or e-locker) in a Taco/Tundra housing. Would this be legal, since a wider diamond is (with the caveat that you're also more likely to hit cones). I'm not proposing any rule changes...just pointing out some ideas.
I've got both of my housings modded to run e-lockers. Wasn't too hard.

thx. I'll probably get a rear third on the way. Gonna order the Marlin crawler guard for it. Does the same guard work for the HP 3rds as well?
the guards suck, they still let your motor get banged and breaks the aluminum casing...IMO all the currently sold ones suck ass.Better off building your own that bolt to the housing as well as the third. The current ones bolt to the same studs the motor does and sandwiches the aluminum to the housing. The take a good hit and crack the alumnum and lets the motor go crooked. No more selectable locker. Mine got hit on maybe a 1/8" gap on the bottom, the gear couldn't touch the rack in the third anymore and would just spin.
For the rear diff buy an ARB if you can your much better off. I run a HP front elocker and rear ARB, wish I would of bought a front ARB as well. You use the rear locker way more in comps and the ARB is just that much faster and easier to use off and on repeatedly

Wer have run a rear locker for about half this season with no issues. We did rip the front motor out but I drilled out the holes out to 3/8 w/grade 8 bolts and this mod has held up fine so far.
