Hold on... All Pro's kit may not be cheap, but as somsone who ahs made my own SAS from scratch, I can guarantee if I made a kit it would not be cheap either!

Check out my web site, I did mine for about $1200, and $800 of that was high steering costs (one of the first kits)

Well, yeah do it yourself.
Oh and trying doing a search. I think I remember some guy talking about swapping a solid axle into an IFS truck.

Many people just buy the spring hanger kit and Hy-Steer then do the rest themselves. The Hy-Steer is on sale this month for $499, and the hager kit is $249

You think that AP's prices are BS, go to a machine shop and have it all custom made!!!! I think you will change your mind. If you have th skill make it yourself!!!!:D Here is a site where the guy did his basic swap for under a 1000. If you are willing to break a sweat go for it.

I used to think All-Pro's pricing was bullshit too until I made my own kit (except steering arms and pitman). It is a bitch to get everything to work out right if your rig is going to be driven on the street at all.

The extra dough your paying AP is for the engineering. They have worked most all the bugs out and its been proven with there design.

You can look up dimensions on building your own kit on the net all day long, but something will go wrong more then likely, and you have to figure out whats wrong and fix it like I did.

Since mine is a daily driver and it put me out of driving commision for about 3 weeks, I would now definitely go with AP's kit.

If not a daily driver, then do the kit yourself.

No Im not a AP junky, the only thing ive bought from them is the "weld" together bumper kit like 4 years ago.

Besides doing a search newbie the best advice I can give you is to have ALL your stuff ready to go otherwise you will be out of commission for longer than you thought :flipoff2:

hmmmmm, seems like I remember this topic being discussed on this board a really long time ago too. I think I have heard of one or two people doing a swap, probably not enough to use a SEARCH!!!

What he said. I used springs from AllPro and the hanger and what-not from Kongs4x4 (http://www.kongs4x4.com). Because I had all of the parts ready to go, me and my buddies did my SAS in two days - and the first was from 11-3, and was just me explaining the process and sleeving the frame for the shackles, and mounting the spring hanger. The cut-everything-off and bolt-it-all-up day was from 9-5. We could easily have done it in one day, since everything was already there, and finished by 8pm.

You'll need to fab up or source:
Spring hanger
Tubing to sleeve frame for shackles
Shackles
U-bolt plates
U-bolts (Right innner is really funky)
Shocks
Shock Towers (Used Ford part # E5TZ-18183-A)
Steering

And I'm sure I could find plenty of other things to mention if I sat here long enough, such as a rebuild kit for the axle to be swapped in (I used JTOutfitter's kit) and so on...

So you see, it's a lot more than building yourself a spring hanger and a couple of shackles.

BTW: Here's a link to the writeup I did on my SAS: http://home.off-road.com/~mithrandir/sas/

88 krawler you make all the shit AP does and you tell me if there prices are bullshit then, i bet money if you made the components they do you wouldnt be selling them for 10 cents either.

That is what I did with mine. It saved me a lot of trouble. The money I spent on the 2 kits wes well worth it to me.
