17-inch expedition tires, opinions wanted

Hello everybody :)
I'm looking for a set of all-purpose tires for my vehicle, something in the All-Terrain class. It has to be 33-34 inch tall and no more than 10.5 (265mm) wide. Is that utopia, and i should go to 16-inch wheels, or there are some available?

The reason for not going for 15 or 16-inch tires in the first place, is that i allready have the 17-inch wheels on my new vehicle.

Might want to look into the Pro Comp Extreme MT. I have them in thr 37" Flavor , load range D, 3 Ply..................Great tires.

can you fit a smaller wheel on your vehicle?

i'd love to go down from a 17" wheel, but the brakes are too big on mine.

you might look into BFG AT's. they have good traction, wear really well, and can be found anywhere.

I agree they're great tires, but they don't make them in the size requirements he's stated: 33x10.5x17

Unfortunately, there aren't going to be many options. The closest you'll find as a commonly-available size is 285/70-R17 which equates to approximately 33x11-17. BFGoodrich All-Terrains are available in this size, as are a few other popular all-terrain tires.

I had a set of Toyo MTs in 295/75-17 on my superduty for a while. They lasted really well for how much gravel they saw. 10 ply rating. Only downside was snow performance was less than stellar and they weigh quite a bit. Wanted something about 34" tall and as narrow as possible for the 17s. This is what I ended up with.

The Toyo M/T's come in 295/70R17 or 285/75R17's.

The 295's are 33.5" tall, and the 285'S are 34.1" tall, and 11.5" and 11.0" wide respectively.

I recently was in this situation since i did the AEV Highline to my Unlimited.AEV only offers their wheels in a 16 or 17.I think this is a mistake in my situation as most Jeeps have 15's anyways.I eventually just put BFG A/ts on my factory wheels.As for 17s on a vehicle you will use in the back country i think isnt a good idea.In remote areas if you needed one you would mostly be able to find a 15 or a 16 but good luck coming a cross a 17.Just my 2 cents.

i have hankook dynapro rt03's in the 285 70 17 flavor. they're awesome, wearing really great. downside is they're like 60 pounds a piece, but they will take just about anything you can throw at them.

I sell the Rt03's, they are a really nice tire.
Drawback -- not "quite" as aggressive as the average mud terrain tire, like the BFG M/T or similar.
The positive to that being they are quite a bit better on the highway in terms of vibration and hum/noise.

They are supposed to be a fairly long-lasting tire, they hold up well against gravel roads. They are sold all over N. America, eastern Asia (being manufactured in S. Korea) and I believe in Australia as well. Europe and Africa, not too sure.
Basically it's a pretty good bet it's a true "world tire" at this point though -- like the BFG offerings.

I run the Hankook Mud ?RT-03?'s I had them siped for the snow/ice in the winter. I'm very happy with them. They are quiet, have lots of traction, wear really good and they were cheap. They have excellent sidewalls and load capacity. My 295/75/16's are perfect for my use. I tow pretty heavy on occasion and they are rated for the same weight as the E-Range tires they replaced.

With the siping, they stick like glue to ice that I could barely walk on without busting my tail. Not even a slip of the wheel, on uphill takeoff's from a dead stop.

I love BFG's, but for 25% less $$$ I will run the Hankooks till they give me a reason not to like them.

BFG has just released a 255/80/17 in their new KM2 model

That 255/80R17 BFG's are on their website, but through my supplier, they haven't even been provided with pricing or a part# yet. They buy direct from Michelin Canada, so they might be behind a bit what is available in the U.S.
I'll call my other supplier out of Seattle and see what they have to say.

UPDATE: Apparently it's not available through my US supplier either. He mentioned that they often will holdback from releasing info and product until after the SEMA show in the fall. (Late October/early November???)
