If I have a bar behind my seats a few inches below shoulder height and I run my harnesses over that to the floor, would that be the same as mounting them to the bar? Seems the same in my head but I wanted to run it by the board.

why not mount it to the tube?

the straps come together in a Y after going through the seat and that point is past the tube.
